Assuming a change is made... who are some names you'd like to hire? A few of mine are Jai Lucas (Miami) Jerrod Calhoun (Utah State) Bucky McMillan (A&M) Mark Byington (Vandy) Fred Hoiberg (Nebraska) I've heard of some poeple being big on Chris Beard (Ole Miss) as well. And of course, a lot of people's favorite, a return for Will Wade.

Maybe we're really ready to be serious but if it's our ordinary approach Calhoun is the only one of these that would consider LSU.

If we can name anyone I'm going with Shaq

I don't think he'll leave the Big East but I like him

I think admin will be very serious. It's the first mbb hire for Verge, and it's a sport that he cares for. I'm excited for the entire process honestly. And I don't know anyone who thinks Verge did a poor job with the first hire he was tasked with.

Pearl would def. make noise in the cbb world which we need badly. But I think he's done coaching

Love your list, also Grant McCasland, but can't see prying loose Byington nor McCasland from alma maters, nor the TxTech Billionaires,etc..
Probably should grab a top Asst from Dan Hurley or Mark Few or May, Izzo, Self. Maybe scour for one from the Big 12, Big East, Big 10, SEC.
No more Curly riding Favre to the gig, no more Sunbelt Billy/OVC Matty riding Ja to BR.
Nice man, I'll wish him well.

Thanks. I wouldn't mind the asst route either. Luke Murray from UConn is a name I've heard a lot, and Dan Hurley credits a lot of his success to him. I agree with you on the sunbelt/ovc, can't really afford to go mid major right now.

Saint Louis coach Josh Schertz would be a good hire if they have to go midmajor route. He'll be a hot commodity this coming job cycle.

"Basketball coaches don't have levels. Josh Schertz hasn't been a great Division II coach or Division I coach. He has been, and is, a great basketball coach, period. Once you study Schertz's teams, it's clear that he sees and teaches the game on a different level of innovation and ingenuity. His teams perform at a masterclass level with disciplined freedom. They are like classically trained jazz musicians, and the result is beautiful to watch. Schertz is a prime example of how a great coach can demand excellence with empathy, caring, and a 'we first' attitude. The masses will soon learn what Saint Louis already knows: Josh Schertz is the genuine article. Saint Louis just hired one of the brightest minds in the game."
– Jay Bilas, ESPN
"Josh Schertz is one of the brightest coaching minds in college basketball and he has proven it over 16 years as a head coach. More importantly, he is an outstanding mentor to young people and his values are in perfect alignment with those of Saint Louis University. They have found a great fit."
– Fran Fraschilla, ESPN
"I've known and respected Josh for a long time and have always enjoyed our discussions on coaching philosophy, leadership, as well as X's and O's. His teams are a joy to watch and he always finds the best in people. Saint Louis is getting one of the best basketball minds in the country and an even better person. I can't wait to follow Josh and the Billikens program for years to come."
– Dusty May, University of Michigan Head Coach
"In hiring Josh Schertz, SLU has hired a coach who will lead with unparalleled character, elite level knowledge of the game, and work habits. He is someone who is able to connect with and develop young men to be great players and people. Josh teaches the game in a truly unique way which has led to his rarely seen success. I along with many others in the NBA learn from him each time I watch his team play and admire his ability to prepare and innovate. John Wooden once said, 'The most powerful leadership tool you have is your own example.' In Josh Schertz becoming the head coach at Saint Louis, the Billikens have added a person who truly embodies leading by example."
– Sean Sweeney, Dallas Mavericks Asst. Coach
"Coach Schertz is the epitome of hard work. In every stop in his coaching journey, he has taken his teams to an elite level and maximized their potential. Where Coach Schertz goes, winning is soon to follow. Josh's dedication to his players, staff and administration speaks to his commitment to the community and to the university he represents. SLU is getting a genuine winner."
– Peter Patton, Chicago Bulls Director of Player Development
"Josh is a rising star in college basketball and SLU hit a home run with this hire. His teams are always some of the most enjoyable teams to watch because they play with such passion and togetherness. All he does is win wherever he goes."
– Chad Buchanon, Indiana Pacers General Manager

Schertz been a head coach for 18 seasons at 3 schools — 7 seasons with 20-29 wins, 6 seasons with 30+ wins, 1 .500 season and 1 season under .500. He’s definitely worth a look.
