The Left will be torn on this one. He's an illegal who they love and also black but also a cop who they hate. Now if he is also gay their heads could explode.

Shouldn't police departments do background checks on potential new hires?

Honestly, how did his immigration status never come up?

My understanding is that ICE prioritizes dangerous alien criminals.

They need to add aliens who are employed by government and can exercise authority over citizens.

No illegal should ever be placed in a position of authority over a citizen.

I always thought marrying a citizen gives you residency.
Wasn't that the point of mail order brides?

Given that this would be done by a government HR administrator, odds are that Defined & Established Idiocy (DEI) is to blame

NOPD Chief on Officer Detainment by ICE: “Worst Thing I’ve Seen Since Prohibition Era”

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Police Department confirmed this week that a recently hired officer was detained by ICE, a development Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick described as “deeply unfortunate” and unlike anything she has encountered since Prohibition.

Department officials said the officer passed the standard hiring process, which the chief noted has remained largely unchanged because “it has worked fine for a very long time.” When asked how an undocumented individual made it onto the force, Kirkpatrick explained that the department focuses on character, discipline, and “the basics,” rather than newer federal paperwork requirements. She also said she sent a fax to immigration asking about the man’s status but never received a return fax.

Sources inside NOPD said the chief was surprised to learn immigration status is now routinely verified during background checks, adding that the process once relied more heavily on personal references and trust.

Kirkpatrick acknowledged the department may review its hiring procedures but warned against unnecessary modernization. “Not every new system improves things,” she said, recalling a time when interagency coordination was simpler and federal agents did not appear without advance notice.

ICE officials confirmed the detention and declined further comment, noting the situation “raised questions on both sides.”

Would love to know the basis for the fraud denial. To get a marriage fraud finding during the I-751 and not the I-130 stage is pretty difficult, it must have been blatant fraud for him to get popped.

LOL fricking L, she sent a fax to immigration to get background information. A fax? WTH?

New Orleans has one of this nation's highest crime rates, NOPD is severely under-staffed, and the Chief is still sending faxes on background checks for new hires.
