Why would they confiscate his camera? I’m not familiar with any rules in Antarctica

Another log on the fire of the Antarctica conspiracies.

What’s the reason? It’s political?

What’s the reason?

Key Findings:
- Research Stations (USAP): Streaming services (Netflix, Spotify, etc.) are explicitly blocked/prohibited at Palmer, McMurdo, and South Pole stations.
- Connectivity Issues: Internet is often only up for 5 hours a day, with speeds as low as 1 Mbps, making live video streaming impossible.
- Video Calls: Skype or FaceTime is generally blocked, though sometimes allowed via public kiosks or specialized outreach, say USAP.gov.
- Tourism: Cruise ships may offer paid internet access, but it is typically slow and, according to Intrepid Travel, not suitable for streaming, say Intrepid Travel.
- AIS Data: If referring to AIS (Automatic Identification System) for ship tracking, coverage is limited to roughly 200km off coastlines, according to aisstream.io.
In summary, for research personnel, data usage is tightly controlled to ensure operational, email, and scientific work, while tourists face high costs and limited, slow connectivity.
No conspiracies, just practical access issues to insure connectivity for scientific and research internet availability.

conspiracies
Kinda NOT a conspiracy when photoing a part of the world isn't allowed, and actually policed in some way.
I was so frustrated watching that because the guy never asked "why?"

That’s what I figured. Another post on the political board that the OP is too dumb to post in the OT.

as if everyone doesn’t already know. fricking morons.

The South and North polar regions are serviced by ~900 Starlink sats, but there lots of restrictions imposed. Conspiracy theorists should look at
BICEP (Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization).
Officially, it is a series of ground-breaking astrophysics experiments located at the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station. Its goal is to look back at the very first fraction of a second after the Big Bang.
Unofficially, it is a radio station right on the Earth's axis... UFO comms and navigation stuff come to mind.

Photos aren't allowed there??
The wife and I booked an icebreaker "cruise" to Antarctica a few years ago for our anniversary and I can assure you we took hundreds of photographs at several research stations without the slightest interference from the ship's or research station's authorities.
These are 2 photos I took outside the Ukrainian research station in Antarctica.

STARLINK: Ship captains operating in the Antarctic rely on their ability to censor all information received or transmitted by passengers. Captains don't want a passenger to share information about a voyage that isn't approved by him

While we were on the Polar Star going and coming to and from Antarctica I sent and received several emails using the ships' passenger data room. It was a bit pricey, as I recall about $10/minute of usage, but no one asked to approve my transmissions nor even asked to read them.

Ok...that was a quote. I've never been there. Why was streamer WVagabond censored?

Does starlink have issues connecting?

Why was streamer WVagabond censored?
Why won't you just come out and say what you believe the issue is? I need a good chuckle...
