She watches five channels maximum. I’m 60 and barely technologically proficient. Help me get her off this shite. She wants her local channels and Hallmark.

You pay for the Direct TV and let your mom watch what she wants.

Go to Walmart get her an antenna for local channel

With a Roku the Hallmark channel is $79.99 for the year or $7.99 a month.

That’s what we did for years. Much easier for her to not have to figure out casting or using built-in apps etc. She is in her prime, let her enjoy her time. You should be able to switch up the package some to lower costs.

This is the best way, but requires toggling between the inputs between the RoKu and antenna I believe.

Does she already have internet access at her home? If so, just get her NetFlix with an antenna for local stations

Does she have internet? She could switch to their directv streaming for cheaper if so. Probably half the price depending on which tier you need. Even the lowest includes locals and Hallmark.

You can also share it together if you want. They allow you unlimited streams in one home and up to 3 at a different location. I'm not sure anyone else does this. And they have a gemini box you can rent for $10 so the experience is easier if she's use to a more traditional style remote with numbers and even voice commands.

Even with the recent price hikes YouTube TV is less than half that (around $90/month) with all the local channels and Hallmark

Call DirecTV and ask for the retention department. Tell them you need a discount or you are cancelling. They will give you a big chunk off for a period of time. When that expires, call again.

directv has a full digital option now , my grandparents have it. I'm not sure exactly, but I think it only costs ~65 bucks a month. I know it's nowhere near 200. She is probably still paying for the multiple receivers etc.

I like my satellite dish over streaming b/c I can punch in channel number without having to go thru 600 channels in the guide

Internet down, no problem. I’m still connected

I pay $40 more per month, but honestly, I’d pay more for the convenience. I stream outside in the poolhouse and love when I can walk outside and predict the next play to everyone watching the game LOL

Get her an antenna for the local channel. Then get (Frndly tv) subscription service for $8 a month. It has 3 Hallmark and 2 GAC channels plus Pixl and Dove. Mama gonna be very happy with you.

Or get PureFlix for a year. My wife has this. She loves it. It's like the Hallmark channel but faith-based.

Edit:

What's wrong with PureFlix?

She can get that with Youtube tv for half the cost.

Or even cheaper, get an antenna for local and sign up for hallmarks streaming service which is under $20/month.
