Given that my computer is 13 years old but still working remarkably well, I have a problem with using TurboTax this year. Every year I purchase the software and install it, but this year that’s not possible with the Windows 10 vs Windows 11 issue.

Has anyone decided to go the online TurboTax route with the higher price and information entering issues I’m hear about, or pull the trigger on a new computer and continue to buy and install TurboTax?

Think I’m leaning toward the new computer route.

Considering security updates ended last October for Windows 10. You need to upgrade either way and get off windows 10.

You could always install someone like Ubuntu on your current machine to keep using it, but I'm assuming you want to stick with Windows.

Is buying the software that much cheaper than the online version?

Maybe you signed up for the extended security updates plan? That will get you to October of this year.

Otherwise they are no longer pushing security updates to Windows 10 through Windows update channel.

There are other ways you could possibly get these updates not through the normal channels. But the vast majority of users would not go this route.

All updates will stop in October 26

Same here. Haven’t used the installable version since like 2002 and honestly surprised they still support a thick client

How complicated are your taxes? I learned about FreeTaxUSA on here and it does the job for me, but I take the standard deduction so I don’t really need features.

Yeah, milking it on my one computer that is not upgradable.

Have MSDN subscription, wonder if I can switch it over Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 and receive updates until January 13, 2032

I should check.

I spend like $100 for the online version. This is not where I am fighting my battles. No issues.
