And the media wonders why the average American has totally tuned them out.

What this news report fails to mention is that the North Atlantic region (which encompasses Trenton, NJ) was in the middle of what climate historians call the "Little Ice Age" in December 1776. The NASA Earth Observatory notes three particularly cold intervals during this period: one that began in 1650, another in 1770, and a final one in 1850. In between these three were periods of warmer climate. In short, it makes sense that Jefferson was noting colder winters in the 1770s because the North Atlantic was going through a period of below average temperatures due to the Little Ice Age.

Temperatures have been rising steadily since records began in the 1870s because we have been coming out of the Little Ice Age. Some climate historians don't believe the Little Ice Age ended until the early-20th century.

My reply to CBS:

quote:

In a world where it is generally accepted that the Earth has experienced three to five major ice ages across the history of the planet, please explain to us how it is possible that all of these ice ages subsided on their own without alternating cycles of global warming and cooling?

Once you've done that, please tell the class how all of those were possible when the United States did not exist before 1776.

Next up, please give us a specific figure of how much more in taxes the 4% of the world's population that the United States comprises should pay so that the star 92 million miles away will burn cooler.

Final question - please elaborate in detail how any efforts 300 million Americans make towards environmental changes are going to impact the global environment when China and India comprise approximately 40% of accepted values of world pollution, and being a full 35% of the global population and are making absolutely zero changes to reduce pollution?

We'll wait for your thorough, thoughtful responses.

Disgusting people in our media. They couldn't give 2 fricks for Washington. They think this massively successful country is here by luck.

Maybe if the climate were a bit warmer in the 1770s, we might have won the revolutionary war a few years sooner. Then we could blame George Washington’s horse for farting too much.

Hey, they'll do anything to keep from having to pay tribute to one of our WHITE Founding Fathers.

You don't hate the media enough.

In ancient times the warming periods marked human population growth due to more vegetation. The only downside was more disease because germs spread more and medicine was not available. In the American colonies of 1700 life expectancy was about 4 years longer in the northern colonies than in the south due to disease.

Wonder why they didn't mention that the Delaware is pretty much frozen right now...
