Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, who has been at Microsoft since he joined as an intern in 1988 and with Xbox since the software giant launched its first console in 2001, is retiring, sources familiar with the matter who are not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to IGN. Spencer’s retirement is effective on Monday, February 23. Meanwhile, Xbox President Sarah Bond, long thought by many both inside and outside of Microsoft to be Spencer’s heir apparent, has resigned. The new CEO of Microsoft Gaming will be Asha Sharma, currently the President of Microsoft’s CoreAI product. Finally, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty is being promoted to Chief Content Officer and will work closely with Sharma.

A few months ago there were articles talking about how internally Microsoft wanted Xbox to reach 30% profit margins, which is insane and ridiculous for a consumer game and console company.
I fully expect this woman who was appointed as the Xbox head was put there to lead the wind down and ultimate collapse of Xbox.

360 capitalized on Sony’s ps3 pricing blunder.
Time has shown that was a one off stroke of luck that will not be repeated.
Sony owns the segment of console gaming that Xbox tried to compete in. We have had 10+ years of people building digital libraries. Nobody is switching back over to the Xbox ecosystem after jumping ship during the Xbox one era.

True. When I finally turned my One in for a PS4 and its catalog….i knew I wasn’t going back. I had TLoU, Bloodborne, Gow, HZD, Days Gone, Ghosts, P5..etc etc etc.
Like damn.

i made the jump with the ps3 slim and never went back.
I loved the OG xbox and the 360 but PlayStation has owned the last 2 cycles and being able to play any xbox exclusive on my PC means I haven't missed anything anyway (but there hasn't been much that wasn't on PS anyway)

Microsoft is quite literally the biggest cancer in gaming.
Buying up a like a 4th of the third party gaming space then just sitting on them while they silently implode.

At this point, I am just enjoying the slow implosion.
They literally ruin everything they touch.
The only thing they’ve put out that generated hype and created positive media buzz was hi fi rush and they immediately shitcanned that studio.

I was never really thrilled with the idea of Sarah Bond replacing Phil Spencer.
Anyone claiming to know how this is going to work out at this point is just overreacting. For the moment, Game Pass is still the best thing in all of gaming and this hasn't changed that.
