I mean, sure, but that's kind of the point. There isn't much real poverty there even though it's between 8th and 10th for highest poverty rating in the US. The state of Alabama, even being one of the poorest states in the US, has less poverty than Canada.

Except Alabama isn't the poorest state of the union...Mississippi is, here is the Google wording and look at the other states listed too...
"Other states often ranked alongside Mississippi as having the highest poverty rates and lowest income levels include Louisiana, New Mexico, West Virginia, and Arkansas."
