My son wants a shotgun for his 18th birthday. At what age can you legally purchase a shotgun in Louisiana? is it 18 or 21?

I could buy it and gift it to him, but I though he might like it if he got to make the purchase himself as an adult.

18 for shotty's and other long guns. Idk how much you're looking to spend but I have a Beretta AX800 coming and it looks incredible.

A little advice when choosing a shot gun. Let the user hold it sort of at the waist. Tell him to close his eyes and shoulder the gun. Now let him open his eyes and choose the one where the front and rear of the barrel are on the same plane with his eyes.

Yep. I do absolutely love my B80 and A390. Feels almost the same. Just a little more refined. No reason to ever shotgun shop again if you own any of those 3 guns.

My son was on leave around Christmas and tried to buy his first AR but was delayed and due back the next day. I ended up "buying" it for him but he's stationed in Virginia so the gun is at my house.

Don’t overlook an older 870. You can pick one up just about anywhere and I think it’s always the perfect first shotgun. Especially at his age.

If he's right handed then just get him a Mossberg Maverick 88 for like $200.

If you know what he wants, I personally would get it for him. If you don’t know, I’d let him buy it himself, rather than listen to bad advice on here

Yep. Love both of mine. They were my grandpa's. A light twelve and a sweet sixteen. I have two boys, and each of them will get one handed down to them.

I bought my fitst shotgun at 18. A Japanese Browning A5 Stalker with 32in barrel. Sold it to my buddy and bought a Belgium Browning gold. It fit me much better.

If I was going to buy another shotgun, Beretta is what it would be. Those fit like a glove to damn near anyone.

I’ve not. They look great though. Just know that the action in it is a copy of the original SBE which was one of the best semi shotguns ever made right behind the original A5.

I have a mid-60's Belgian made Sweet 16 inherited from my dad.
I have shot many a different shotgun in my days, but if somebody told me I had to pick only one shotgun and could never have any other, I would keep the Sweet 16 without hesitation.

Best feeling, balanced, easy on the shoulder shotgun I have ever held.

I have an a5 wicked wing. The finish sucks arse, but it’s a sweet shooter. I’ve put it through hell and it still shoots to the plug every time.

I inherited a mid-60s Belgian Sweet 16 from my uncle. Lots of rabbits and squirrels were taken with it before it was passed down. It and ‘my first gun’, a Remington 1100 20ga Christmas present from my dad, are my favorite guns.

I gifted the 20ga to my son when he passed his hunter safety course. He’ll get the Sweet 16 when I pass.

I will probably buy one after they have banned everything else here in VA in July.

Getting as many grandfathered guns in now as the wife will let me
