Lawmakers want billionaires to foot the bill for $3,000 payouts to American households

Progressive lawmakers Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., are targeting the billionaire class with a massive new tax proposal that seeks to seize trillions from the nation's wealthiest individuals to fund a sweeping government spending spree.
Announced Monday, the "Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act" targets 938 individuals, including titans like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, for an estimated $4.4 trillion over the next decade — a move Sanders claims is necessary to fix a "corrupt tax code" that has seen wealth redistributed from the bottom 90% to the top 1%.

The core of the proposal is a direct 5% annual wealth tax on assets, not just income, exceeding $1 billion. Sanders and Khanna project the bill to raise $4.4 trillion in revenue over 10 years.
The measure would direct new tax revenue toward one-time $3,000 payments for individuals in households earning $150,000 or less, meaning a family of four could receive up to $12,000.
The legislation cites several high-profile figures to illustrate its reach: Elon Musk would owe $42 billion, Mark Zuckerberg could pay $11 billion and Jeff Bezos would owe an approximate $11 billion.

Politicians love to spend other people's money. Maybe a group of billionaires say we will foot the bill as long as politicians take a 40% pay cut and all government departments are audited by DOGE and waste found is ended.
Furthermore, all politicians and their families to the 3rd cousins, including in-laws, must be forensically audited.
"It is a simple price to pay for serving the people, don't ya think," says the billionaire group.

I’d prefer the lawmakers take $3000 less of my money to redistribute than take a billionaire’s money to redistribute.

The typical grift by Sanders. Wait until the GOP controls DC, THEN propose big tax increases.
Sanders doesn't roll these proposal out when Biden and the Dems control DC though.

And BTW, if they want billionaires to pay their ‘fair’ share (along with everyone else) go to a consumption tax.

Once all the billionaires flee, the middle class will end up paying for it.

Call it a "Trump Rebate" and there will be universal support here.

Typical Democrats. Absolutely ZERO constitutional authority for any part of this scheme. Unfortunately, I haven't seen too many Republicans who care to abide by the constitutional limits placed upon the federal government either.

The entire tax code is corrupt. Throw it in the trash and start over.

Is 4.4 trillion even going to cover the interest on our debt in 10 years?

A one-time payment to the poors but the tax itself will contuine in perpetuity.

Okay, you give 3 grand to people one time. What will they do with the money? During covid they used the money to take off from work, further weakening an already weak economy and causing more inflation.
And how often do you want leftists to do this giveaway?
Leftists feelz will be the end of our country.
Leftists should have NOTHING to do with governance!
