MGM+ and Paramount+ described the series as a “bold, high-stakes coming-of-age adventure series for a new generation.”
MGM+ boss Michael Wright said: “This thrilling new adaptation of Stevenson’s classic adventure Treasure Island is a perfect expression of the MGM+ brand. It is a classic Hollywood storytelling crafted for a contemporary audience, brought to life with an extraordinary ensemble cast.”

They just can't help themselves. Mental illness is alive and well.

Didn’t the black guy who wrote the book describe him as pale? I just don’t get race/gender swapping at this point. It’s no longer a novel concept and seems to turn off more people than those who like that kind of thing.
ETA: It seems that I myself have recast Robert Lewis Stevenson as a black man. Maybe Paramount plus will hire me

The “reimagining” only ever goes one way.

I wish this was just a Black Sails sequel

Yet another opportunity for me to post this gif

Or just make up a new pirate story starring David Oyelowo. I just don’t like the “reimagining” of well known property bs. In most cases these days they just use the name as a carrot to draw in the pre-baked fans. Then change the story, lose all those fans who love it, and the show flops after a couple of weeks.
Maybe they don’t do that so much here, but from how it reads it sounds like that will happen. I’m sure it will have a 90% critic score on rt though.

What black guy that wrote the book?

Oh no, I think I've confused Robert Lewis Stevenson with Alexander Dumas. Let the downvotes rain
Posted on 3/3/26 at 2:55 pm to SCLSUMuddogs
Yes, Dumas was supposedly black. But it was a 'drop of blood" type of situation. I think he was like 80-90% Caucasian.

Yet skies are screamed at when a yt girl replaces a Mexican chick...

MGM Paramount thought the show was about Long Dong Silver.

Do the blacks not have culture of their own?

I thought we were going to be done with this “re imagining” bs in 2026.

That's the thing, there are plenty of Black pirates such as Black Caesar, Henry Caeser, and Peter Cloise.
I'm not sure why Hollywood does this. David Oyelowo is a fine actor, but there are plenty of others that should be cast in this role.
