NCAA baseball should switch to wood bats

The number of HRs has been increasing drastically. It has surpassed the gorilla ball days which I didn’t think was possible. 1.17 hrs per game in 2024 and it was 1.08 in 1998. The pros use wood, and so should college.

If someone wants to fund that, sure. But most schools won’t.

99% if CBB programs lose money. You think they can afford 200 extra wooden bats per year at $300-500 each?
Hell, half the colleges in the country play on fricking turf fields. Ultra rich ones like Texas and Vandy.

Oregon had a Japanese dude on their team a couple of years ago who only used a wooden bat. Also didn't the SWAC tournament use wooden bats in the past?

I miss the ping of the old bats.
The new bats sound dead.

I see all kinds of great ideas on all kinds of topics. But few consider money

Do the smaller programs buy bats for their players?

Isn't that part of the reason Bryce Harper went to Southern Nevada?
Or did I mis hear? Or just flat make it up?

Position player talent is miles better than it was in 1998 - obviously in a vacuum, but even more on a relative basis with early (and later) round position players choosing college ball at a far, far greater clip. These numbers are more of an argument for how well they’ve fixed the bats and balls from an inflated era in which staffs couldn’t hold undisciplined one-dimensional power hitters accountable
The criteria for justified bat / ball tweaks are pretty simple
1. If the average player makes home run contact and it leaves the park, the bats / balls are fine
2. If the average player makes home run contact and it doesn’t leave the park, the bats / balls are not fine
3. If the average player makes poor contact and it leaves the park, the bats / balls are not fine
4. If the average player makes poor contact and it doesn’t leave the park, the bats / balls are fine
2026 is a world of 1 and 4

Disagree. College baseball is awesome as is.
Nothing wrong with a few more souvenirs going home to fans
(as long as your team is the one hitting them
)

Would be very bad for the watchability of a game that already doesn’t get much viewership

I will never understand people trying to take offense out of the game of baseball. Did some of you actually enjoy the beginning of the BBCOR era? It was terrible.
Hell even today I don’t like how big TD Ameritrade Park is. Pitchers don’t get punished and hitters don’t get rewarded.

Hard pass. This would kill college baseball

Terrible idea. Few people watch the sport as it is. So let’s make it more boring!!!
