Maybe my opinion is skewed by the band of demons hitting the base in the background, but I always felt like the Devil won.

Devil had him in the first half imo. But Johnny ended it

Yes.

But Johnny had the little song though (Fire on the mountain, run boys run). And Johnny ended strongly.

Then he rubbed it in the Devil’s face and called him a son of a bitch. Total alpha move.

He told you once, you son of a bitch. He's obviously the best there's EVER been. What more proof do you need?

I’ve wondered what happened to Johnny after this encounter. How did the rest of his life play out? What happened when he died & showed up @ the pearly gates?

Even the devil knew that he’d been beat

Give me a chorus and I'd sound great too.

Best friend moved to Tennessee for his job and now lives outside of Nashville. Called me to come up and spend a weekend with him and we hit Broadway one of the evenings. I don’t know which one of the 8000 bars we wound up in, but some early 20 year old kid played that song on the fiddle, and I swore I was listening to a young Charlie Daniels.

Cool story bro, I know.

Johnny beat the devil, but the devil had the more unique song.

Heavily edited to son of a gun on the radio. Because ya know, bad language.

Maybe this is just something I heard 20 years ago and just accepted it as fact, but I think that edit is at the request of Charlie Daniels. I think he got religion after beating the Devil.
