Why don't they cover the same stories? Asking for a friend

Because WBRZ is locally owned and WAFB is part of a very large national conglomerate (Gray Media).

How does Kiran break the stories before either of those large businesses?

I quit watching both a long time ago as I found neither covered anything actually newsworthy. Incompetency and corruption right under their noses (CATS, BRPD, Mayor SWB, EBR school board or parish council) but they would spend time covering some stupid social story. Or their investigative "journalists" would be in some neighboring parish covering the misuse of a parish vehicle. Meanwhile, Broome and her appointees were slowly bankrupting BR as crime increased, and the infrastructure crumbled.
You can get better news here or on FB (UWK) than either of those two garbage stations.
The do cover LSU sports though, so there's that.

Because she actually practices journalism.

I appreciate what Kiran does but, man...her stories are often so poorly written that trying to read them can be miserable.

And like all of them, she does go over the top with sensationalizing some stories without really fact checking for accuracy.

WBRZ is more interested in feel-good stories from local communities and light news usually. WAFB will report on actual news stories, but will often leave out key details.

WBRZ's weather department is a big joke, while WAFB's weather department is run by actual professionals who know what the hell they're doing. Plus, they have Sydney

She's starting to sub out some of her story writing. I always check out who the author is.

WAFB VS WBRZ

WBRZ usually has better "talent".

WAFB has better weather, which is the only other thing of any value on local news.

They usually do, but none to speak of right now.

WAFB recently has been showing too many national stories. I watch local stations for local news not national news.

Traffic and weather (usually in that order) are the only reasons I turn my TV on in the morning.

WAFB has always been my local news channel. Grew up watching Donna Britt and George Sells. They always seem more professional and had better production value. WBRZ always seemed more like a mom and pop version.

The weather is no comparison. WAFB has been top notch my entire life. Mike Graham to Jay Grimes to Steve Caparotta.
