* I'll edit this thread and use it as the season 4 discussion thread (and add a spoiler label) once the time comes. *

Got curious and looked up when the new season was coming out, and I finally found a release date (I've looked several times before). Sunday, April 19th.

For those who don't know what this show is, it's one of the best shows on television right now. It's sort of a suspense/horror type show, with maybe a dash of sci-fi if you can call it that (although even those labels don't really cover it). It has sort of a LOST vibe to it, and not just because Harold Perrineau is one of the main actors in it.

But the problem is that people just don't know about the show, and there are limited avenues to watch it. I watch/record it on MGM (formerly a channel called Epix) because I have cable and have those channels. I believe there is an MGM+ app you can subscribe to directly, and I think the app is also available via Prime if you have that. Quick google search tells me it's also on fuboTV, and available for purchase on AppleTV.

This show needs watchers to a) keep it going, and b) add more discussion to our season threads. But the show is great though, and I'd highly recommend it to anybody looking to get into a new show. And if you want to check it out, you have a month and a half to catch up on the first three seasons.

Okay, so the next few posts are ideas/discussions/suggestions that the S3 thread talked about in terms of the show and trying to piece things together and figure shite out.

General info:

- Talismans work on enclosed spaces (houses, the RV, the Colony House foyer, Boyd and Sara’s tent, etc.).
- The town is not located anywhere specific…map showing where everyone came from and was driving when they saw the tree.
- Ethan sees boy in white (BIW) while at Colony House (CH).
- Victor is there since he was a child. Visions of lots of dead people. He sees the BIW and plays with him. Ethan later recognizes the BIW in one of Victor’s drawings (still not sure if he drew it because he saw him or if the BIW manifested from Victor’s drawing).
- Jim and Tabitha had a son who died (Thomas). He later calls Jim on the phone (like a real a-hole).
- Victor tells Ethan about faraway trees and shows him how they work.
- While searching for Ethan, Jim and Tabitha are surrounded by wild dogs and Victor scares them off with a pistol (first time we see him with a gun; we later see him pull it again on Randall when he tries to steal the goat).
- Sara has a seizure in the diner (when she’s told to kill Ethan).
- Ethan also has a seizure. So Boyd suspects the town can cause physical reactions to people, which we later see when Julie, Elgin, Randall, and Marielle when they are consumed by the dreamlike trance with the music box stuff.
- Victor digs two graves at one point (is he more involved with this place than we think?).
- Boyd has early signs of Parkinson’s early in S1.
- Father Khatri’s theory is that there are 73 books in the bible and this is all a test by God to formulate a new 74th book.
- Jade finds the radio and he and Jim later fix it but there is only static.
- Jade sees Civil War soldier ghost. Also sees the symbol (which we later see is the image of the tree roots looking up and out from where the children were bound to tables in the underground monster tunnels.
- Tian-Chen gives Jade the notebook with the drawings of the symbol in them (someone’s stuff who is no longer living there). It also has the photo of Victor as a child.
- Tabitha digs in the basement to find out where the power is coming from.
- Jim builds a taller radio tower (see Control section below).
- Ellis and Fatima survive by using a talisman in the foyer of CH.
- Victor sends Julie through a faraway tree and she ends up in the creepy cellar.
- Boyd is the one who found the talismans (in a cave). He is also the one who found the livestock out in the woods. This helped him naturally transition to the town leader/sheriff. The cave is now a home base/point of reference/safe house of sorts for foraging or anybody out in the woods.
- Boyd and Sara traveled out further than anybody before and found the bottle tree. The bottles had paper messages in them, and Boyd found one dating back to 1864 meaning this place has existed for a long arse time.
- Boyd and Sara’s tent is attacked and dragged a long way. Then a huge light and a loud horn (from the lighthouse). They awake the next day in the spider web part of the forest (frick that ).
- Boyd is bitten by spiders (again, frick that) and becomes delirious and weak.
- When the basement collapses and Tabitha falls into the underground tunnels, Victor is already down there and tells her that’s where the monsters sleep. Is this an underrated moment that could mean Victor is somehow in on things with this place?
- Sara pushes Boyd into a faraway tree at the behest of the BIW, and that’s when Boyd ends up at the bottom of the well. So is the BIW not always helpful?
- Jim’s house collapses when he tries to save Tabitha (who didn’t need saving anyway).
- Boyd gets out of the well with the help of Martin. But then we later see Martin chained to the wall. So how could he also help and throw a rope down or whatever? Also, who has him chained up? And why is his blood all wormy and able to kill monsters? So many questions around Martin.
- Martin tells Boyd the creatures are only the “tip of the spear.”
- This is also where Boyd gets the blood worms thing from Martin that they later use.
- Boyd meets up with Victor and Tabitha in Victor’s trailer. I wonder if he has little safe houses type of things all over.
- Tabitha tells Jim the wires weren’t connected to anything.
- Kelly is staked to a tree by the monsters.
- Fatima takes Elgin to the Brundles (their little tubing oasis) and he has previously seen that in a dream while on the bus.
- We learn about Christopher. He was a happy dude but then became consumed by the symbol Jade sees and changed. It’s also apparently his notebook that Tian-Chen gives to Jade.. Victor told Jade at the car graveyard that one night his mom told him to go hide somewhere Christopher didn’t know, and when Victor woke up the next day everybody was dead. So I suspect we will see more about Christopher at some point. And I am wondering if Jade will be consumed by that symbol and try to do the same thing Christopher did (presumably he killed everyone?).
- When taking Jade to the car graveyard, Victor comments on the trees and their leaves changing colors and that it was strange. He also says there are more cars out there that were there before he moved all of the ones from when he was there.
- Elgin talks about his grandmother crocheting owls. So if we see owls as a factor at some point, Elgin may be connected to that.
- Elgin and Sara bond. And they both have some weird connections to this place.
- At the car graveyard, Victor tells Jade there are bad things in this place that make people do bad things. So maybe that plays into the “there are worse things than monsters” thing?
- “Anghkooey” is what the scary kids say over and over. I don’t think we know much about what that means yet.
- Tabitha gets a nose bleed after her encounter with the kids at the cave (when she built the blocks puzzle at the entrance). This is further evidence of the town physically affecting people.
- Boyd kills a monster with the wormy blood so he can get a transfusion to save Ellis.
- Elgin is attacked by the silliest monster ever in the tub and she tries to drown him.
- Kenny dreams the cicadas then wakes up and has a sore on his arm from one. And they also kill that girl and attack Randall in the woods and are attached to Marielle and Julie as well.
- Victor’s mother (and sister) leave Victor in the cellar to go “save the children.” Is that when she dies? Or was it when Christopher (presumably) kills everyone? I’m confused on that timeline of events. Nevermind, we find out that was the night she left and the night everyone else died. His sister had drawn a picture of the lighthouse and said that’s where their mom was going. So I assume his sister was killed by Christopher and his mom was killed near the bottle tree.
- Victor says “pictures are for things that are gone.” However, a lot of what he draws still take place and are around.
- Victor’s father tells Tabitha his wife hallucinated often and said she was the chosen one to save the children in the tower. And that Tabitha was now the chosen one. So I assume at some point Ethan will become sort of the new Victor?

Control. The town (or whatever is in charge of it) controlling things:

- Sara and the worms in her arm sending her messages (i.e. kill Ethan).
- Sara also hears voices. They told her to kill Tobey and open the door – when Kenny’s dad dies. A (new) female voice spoke to Boyd through her when the two of them went out and stayed in the tent, it said they were making a mistake and there were worse things in the forest than the monsters. A voice spoke to Father Khatri through her confirming they knew about the bottle he buried (she drew a picture of the bag and the bottle
- Voice speaking to Jim on the radio warning him about Tabitha in the basement.
- Visions – Boyd sees Abby, Khatri, etc. Jade sees soldiers and others. Tabitha sees the kids, the block puzzle, etc. Tabitha, Victor, and Ethan see the BIW (or the other kids in white). Etc. Not sure if those are true visions and trying to help or if they are a part of the control exerted on the town by whoever is in charge.
- As Jim prepares to use the radio, the huge storm approaches. Maybe trying to prevent them from figuring shite out?
- At the same time, their basement collapses on Tabitha. Trying to prevent her from finding out shite too? And she had just found out that the wires don’t connect to anything. So how the frick do they have power?
- BIW tells Sara to push Boyd into the faraway tree, leading him to the bottom of the well.
- When Jim tries to save Tabitha in the basement, the house collapses. Intentional?
- The monsters tie Kelly up to a tree. Setting a trap?
- Jim tells Tabitha they are being watched (per the voice on the radio). Leads him to his “this is an experiment” ideas. He talks to Randall about it and says that experiments like that date back to WWII (although per the paper notes Boyd and Sara found we know this place is much older than that).
- Kenny’s dream – another phone call. “They touch, they break, they steal. No one here is free. Here they come, they come for three. Unless you stop the melody.” Then Paula dies from the cicadas. Then Randall is attacked by cicadas in the woods, Marielle sees cicadas and goes comatose, and Julie does too.
- Jim and Kenny leave to find the lighthouse but instead stumble upon the gardens of vegetables. So a distraction when they went looking for the only thing we know of that can get people out of there.
- The whole thing with the town wanting to break Boyd since he talked shite and said it can’t break him. So that’s the weather/cold, the dying crops, the monsters now setting traps and killing animals, killing Tian-Chen, etc.
- The phone call to Jim from Thomas. Just another thing to frick with the inhabitants of the town.

In-show character theories on what is going on:

- Jim and Jade discuss if they died in their car crash and wonder if they are in purgatory.
- Sara thinks by obeying the voices and their messages (including ones on her arms with the worms) that she can get everyone home.
- Boyd suspects the town can cause physical reactions to people.
- Father Khatri’s theory is that there are 73 books in the bible and this is all a test by God to formulate a new 74th book.
- Jim wonders if it is all one big experiment by some sort of entity. Randall later buys into that and thinks someone in town is a mole helping out from the inside.
- Abby thought they were trapped in a nightmare and that by killing everyone she was sending them home/releasing them from this place.
- Voices tell Sara there are things worse than monsters in the woods.
- Martin tells Boyd the monsters are just the “tip of the spear.”
- Ethan notices similarities about this town and his stupid fricking Cromenockle story bullshite. I hate him.
- Jim talks to Randall and says that a lot of people have been pushed to their edge in this place, and he wonders if that’s sort of the point of it.

Victor.

- He’s there from when he was a pretty young kid (less than 10). So he’s been there like 40+ years.
- His pictures. Are they drawings of things he’s seen, or does this place manifest shite from his mind?
- He was already in the tunnels when Tabitha fell down there when the basement collapsed. He also knows his way around the tunnels pretty well. It could be that he has simply been there before, but if he knows that’s where they sleep it seems like he wouldn’t have gone back in there. Yet he has the tunnels memorized.
- He knows all about faraway trees and how they work, and sometimes even where they send you (even though it is supposed to be random?).
- He also knows about other trees, to the point of appearing to notice that they have moved and are further apart from things.
- His mother in the real world (or “real world”) painted pictures of tons of shite from the town. And she also created the bottle tree (as well as a replica in her back yard). That bottle tree will have major significance in the future I suspect.
- He never seems to be in any danger. Could he be one of the monsters at this point, but like a good one who is trying to help? It would make sense from a control perspective that you’d offer a shred of hope/help in the form of a grown, mentally disabled, troubled man so that nobody takes him seriously.
- He also refused to help Jade initially with the symbol even though he knew what it was (or something about it).
- He moved all the cars to the car graveyard (but apparently told nobody about it?).
- When Jade yells at Victor for not being forthright about his knowledge of the symbol and says that could be how they go home, Victor says that the town is his home and leaves.
- He has a sister (Eloise) who ran after their mom when she left him in the cellar.
- He knows which tree takes you to the lighthouse. So technically he knows how to get everyone there. Not sure if he knows it’s how you escape or not (I assume maybe not?), but he took Tabitha there to send her to the lighthouse.
- He may also be legit crazy, so everything I’ve just typed may mean nothing.

I watched the first two seasons. Never got to the third. I wish Amazon would just buy the thing.

For those of you without MGM+, look for Amazon Prime to add the first three seasons to their catalog in a few weeks leading up to the debut of Season 4.

At least that’s the model they’ve followed in the past. Amazon owns MGM+, so they will use Prime to promote shows on MGM+.

Agreed.

It's an awesome show, but are we going to solve ANY mysteries this season or just add more?

I still need to go back and add my notes for the last couple of episodes to my running list of shite discussed in previous threads.

I may do a S3 rewatch before this new one hits.

I'll definitely have to. A lot of weird, crazy shite happened towards the end of last season (I'll avoid including spoilers in this thread though in case people want to start watching the series).

It’s a great show.

I worry it won’t finish though. Like you said, it needs more watchers.
