What are you waiting on Verge? Are they seriously going to retain this guy?

$10,000,000 buyout is my guess.

Discussions are being had w likely candidates. That will determine further action.

Because the season isn't over. Even if he is getting canned, it won't be today. Calm your arse down.

The season to end on Wednesday

A number of coaches with better records than his have already been canned. Do we need to wait for the inevitable first round loss to UK?
Posted on 3/9/26 at 10:38 am to Lucado
They are hoping he goes on a mini run in the SEC tournament so they don't have to can him

Even when the job is insufficient enough to fire someone you have to pay them? I needed these contracts when building.

They aren’t gonna fire him until during or after March Madness due to what NC state is doing. The Will Wade smoke is REAL and they don’t wanna let rumors and drama fly again like what happened with Kiffin and Ole Miss this year.
Wade WILL be the new MBB coach come April. Book this.

Is Verge on this board? Who are you talking to?

NC states season isnt over yet. Pretty simple.
Posted on 3/9/26 at 10:46 am to Lucado
Right after there are no more games to play this season, if it's gonna happen. So after the SEC tournament at the earliest. Assuming we turn down the NIT bid if the NCAA takes 14 SEC schools.

If we were going to fire him before the season finished, that would have been in late January. It will be after the SEC tournament if and when he is let go.

Boston College and Ga Tech did not make the ACC Tournament. That is why their coaches were dismissed.
Kim English has been leaked but he is coaching the Big East first round game.
Those are the only basketball power conference coaches that have been dismissed this week.

I'm concerned the "braintrust" at LSU (using that term lightly) will likely screw this up. At the moment, it doesn't look like this will be a big market in terms of schools looking for new coaches. That means LSU could be one of the more attractive jobs. These are the current open jobs:
Kansas State
Boston College
Georgia Tech
Providence
It's likely Arizona State, Pitt and Syracuse will open too. There is also the "maybes" in Oklahoma, Memphis and Cincinnati.
If OU doesn't open, then LSU would be the only SEC job. There may be a few Big Ten jobs come open, but it wouldn't be big time programs. If nothing else, LSU's status as an SEC school, alone, makes this job attractive because SEC = money.
The worry is that you have influential people dug into the mindset that the only two choices are Wade or retaining McMahon. While I would love to see Wade return, that shouldn't be the mindset...for a number of reasons. First, Wade isn't going to get significantly "cheaper" by waiting until next season to try to hire him. LSU's "burdensome" expense (extravagant football costs, MM buyout, etc) will all still be there next year. Second, LSU doesn't HAVE to make a "big name" hire to have great success. That's been shown over, and over again in college basketball. So ignoring a potential mid-major hire on that basis alone is foolish. Regardless, McMahon has to go. LSU is literally the worst team in the SEC this season and, cumulatively, the worst over the last 4 years. You can't continue on with the status quo when you are already at the bottom.

Let's hope it is Wednesday at about 3pm after the Kentucky loss that they tell him,GO ON GET THE frick OUTTA HERE!!!
Posted on 3/9/26 at 10:57 am to Lucado
He aint going anywhere until they have the new coach selected....and that may be a while.
Posted on 3/9/26 at 10:58 am to Lucado
I think it is more likely that he's retained. Either way, I don't see why they would fire him before the SEC Tournament.
If NC State loses their first game of the ACC Tournament, I am not sure they are an NCAA Tournament team. That's when things could get interesting quickly.
