In the second during Boston’s Spring Breakout game against the Orioles, he averaged 99.1 mph and hit triple digits for the first time in his baseball career.

And Konnor Griffin should have come to school.

I think he was averaging like 93/94 and now he's touching 100. Insane velo development in one year

That 1/2 combo last year was best duo imo at lsu. They carried

They were good the first 1/2 of the year, and then absolutely elite the second 1/2.

During his 2025 junior season at LSU, pitcher Anthony Eyanson's fastball typically operated in the 92-94 mph range, often topping out at 96-98 mph

Anderson and Eyanson as starters and being able to rely on both Evans and Shores as multi inning relievers in the CWS were the biggest reason they won it all last year.
Shores painting 100mph fastballs on the outer inches of the plate against righties was fantastic to watch.

Averaged 99? Holy shite, what a jump. He’ll be in the majors soon if true

I wonder if it’s a difference in the radar. I’ve heard over the last few years one of the changes is the radar picks up the speed as soon as the ball leaves the pitchers hand versus when it crosses home plate.

Thats the case at most levels of baseball though, not just the pros

It’s been like that for quite a while. That’s why they say Nolan Ryan’s 100mph pitch in 1974 would be around 108mph today. Locking his place as the baddest MFer on earth to throw a baseball.

Anthony Eyanson Shows Improved Stuff For Red Sox
Anthony Eyanson Shows Improved Stuff For Red Sox

Hours before his professional unveiling at the Spring Breakout game, righthander Anthony Eyanson sounded like a kid holding onto a secret.
“I feel almost like a brand new pitcher,” he said. “It’s crazy to see the amount of progress that I made.”
The Red Sox drafted Eyanson in the third round last year out of national champion LSU. He signed for an over-slot $1.75 million.
After he transferred from UC San Diego to Baton Rouge in 2025, Eyanson showed an uptick in velocity, holding 93 mph and topping out at 97. But the primary focus of the pitch was to set up his bat-missing slider and curveball.
Once in pro ball, Eyanson has responded quickly to a velocity development program. In live batting practice sessions against Red Sox minor leaguers, he regularly sat 96-97 mph while touching 99.
Then came the Spring Breakout game against the Orioles, a 14-pitch showcase that screamed of a prospect leap. Eyanson surpassed 100 mph for the first time in his career, and his five four-seam fastballs averaged 99.2 mph.
He also showed off a splitter with armside fade. He used his fastball and splitter to set up a wipeout curveball that he used to strike out all three batters he faced.
“He’s very athletic, so he’s been able to make adaptations quickly. His training age is very young,” Double-A Portland pitching coach Juan Rivera said. “He’s just bought into everything—pitch design, velo, command work, what’s happening in (strength and conditioning), what’s happening in the training room.
“That kid checks every box in every department, and we’re seeing it.”
Even before the Breakout Game, Eyanson was the buzziest prospect in Red Sox camp this year. He seemed like a potential back-end starter coming out of LSU, but his stuff gains have already raised his profile.
Boston assigned him to High-A Greenville to start 2026, but his development atop a strong college track record suggests he could quickly reach the upper levels.

Griffin is a freak of nature

How fast was he at LSU?
He was up to 97 at times. His velo is up but won’t pitch at 99. Spring outings are basically bullpen outings where pitchers can really let it loose with no repercussions
