Recently moved into a house on 2 acres and the yard is covered with stickers. What is the best way to get rid of them, and what are long-term solutions to prevent them in the future? Thanks!

Assuming you mean lawn burweed LINK numerous post-emergent herbicides can work including atrazine, Trimec, Fertilome Weed Free Zone, Celsius, MSM Turf, ….but if the stickers (seeds) have formed it’s going to be more difficult to control and you are still left with the seeds-stickers.

This weed is a winter annual. This Fall-early Winter an application or 2 of Simazine pre-emergent herbicide to kill the young seedlings as the seeds sprout in winter, and for those that “escape” the pre-emergent herbicide you need to spray the seedlings in Jan-March before the seeds (stickers) develop. Much easier to control when the burweed is immature.

Wife complained last year do to barefoot grandkids. For the first time ever, I used a Fall pre-emergent. Then as things warmed up, I spot sprayed with Atrazine. We have no more stickers...or henbit or really much else St. Aug is looking good though.

Burgees took over my back yard this year. Slipped preemergent because I’m still trying to get grass growing. One round of post emergent did ok but haven’t been able to control since.

Won’t happen again next year, I’d rather re sod the entire yard

On the bright side, grass is coming in and even have st aug sprouting that I really have never seen grow in the back. Trees down and mowing refining for 3 years now has really changed my yard. The st aug must have been put down a long time ago, that’s what the front is primarily

Burrweed is typically a sign of an unhealthy lawn…so if you want to do something right now, fertilize your existing lawn to choke out the burrweed,

Also, spray next January i\with something that kills weeds….before the seeds form.

There is nothing you can do this year, but buy everyone some flip-flops!
