Flight 93 National Memorial (Somerset County, PA)

I recently had the (unexpected) opportunity to visit this site and was wondering if anyone else had been there. I never realized how fulsome of a memorial had ultimately been created - the latter elements only being completed in 2015.
IMO, they did a fantastic job - and they DO NOT shy away from the reality of the situation. I saw dozens of people crying at the exhibits - one of which is to listen to recordings of some of the phone calls the victims made from the plane to their loved ones on the ground.
It's a very large installation with numerous elements. The Tower of Voices is haunting:
I think every American middle/high schooler should go on a field trip there. It was hard for me to imagine much division when at the site. I know that's just me getting caught up in the moment, but there WAS a time when it meant something to be American other than being constantly accused of racism and sexism and ruining the world.

Todd Beamer went to school at Fresno State. There is a park named in his honor that we used to take our son to when he was little. Those guys and gals were beyond brave in facing down the terrorists. I do worry about the country largely moving on from what happened that day as time moves on and our generations slowly pass away. Pearl Harbor was a significant event but there isn’t a personal attachment to it for me. I see the same thing happening with 9/11.

The fact that we now have a generation of young adults who’ve never even heard about 9/11 is just pure insanity. It’s like the younger Gen X/older millenial parent crowd just doesn’t give enough of a shite to teach their own kids about one of the most important events to have happened in the U.S. in the last 50 years.
I seriously wish more schools would be able to take trips to see the Flight 93 memorial in PA and 9/11 fountain in NYC

It’s only 3 hours from me. I’m going to have to day trip it one weekend. Maybe when the weather is good and I get a motorcycle.

D.C. has allowed the systemic takeover of our cities by a religion that perpetuated the attack. Instead of jets flying into buildings they are invading through politics and sheer numbers pushing people out.

The memorial is definitely worth a visit.
There are several other national points of interest in that area such as the Johnston Flood memorial. I think about 3,000 people died in that event too.

I have never been, but have been to the memorial in NYC. It’s a solemn place to honor the innocents affected by that tragedy.
That being said, I have zero doubt that 93 was shot down by US military aircraft. The narrative is honorable, but takes away from the logic of the situation.
93 went down about 30 minutes after flight 77, and with the events that had transpired in the hours before, there is no way in hell that plane was going to fly on with known terrorists at the helm.

We are going to Pittsburgh next weekend, and I would like to add this trip to our things to do.
We went to the OKC National Memorial two years ago. Very difficult to see some of the remnants and hear the story about the daycare center being under the truck bomb. The famous picture of the OKC firefighter holding Baylee Almon is just heartbreaking.

I visited the Smithsonian many years ago and there was a display of items left at the wall of the Vietnam memorial.
There was a six pack of Schlitz cans, four full two empty. I thought, what the heck is that. A note next to the six pack read "Promised we would have a beer when we got back stateside, promise made, promise kept"

I have zero doubt the hijackers crashed the plane into the ground when it looked like they were about to be overpowered by the passengers. This lines up best with physical, forensic, and eyewitness evidence.
There was quite literally no reason to lie to the American people about this, especially in the hours and days after the attacks. Had the flight really been shot down by fighter aircraft there is almost a 100% certainty that every American would have understood.

No it doesn't.
There is ZERO doubt that what happened happened, in that terrorists crashed the plane into the ground after being overpowered by the passengers.

The coroner essentially found ZERO human remains as we would commonly think of them, such was the force.
