The kid makes good contact, has good speed, and has a small strike zone. It would make sense to flip-flop he and JM in the batting order.

Mitchell does need to be moved down. Don't know what's up with him but he's been striking out so much lately he's pass Landry in that department.

He and Matook get a lot better pitches batting 8-9. Not a bad idea though. 1-5 usually crap to hit-especially when you are ranked #. Look what we did to Taylor Dugas with Alabama.

What is the OBP of each of them from, say, the last month?

you want to move J mitch to the 9 hole? And get him one less at bat per game?

I agree Hanover would make a great lead off guy, but J mitch also nees to be at the top of the order. He seems like a perfect number 2 hitter in my mind.

One thing that Tyler doesnt do great all the time, that is somewhat important for a lead off guy, is look at a few pitches.

He has led off innings a few times this year swinging at, and popping out, or grounding out the first pitch he sees

what about mahtook. he's faster than Hanover. Although Mahtook may be too big of an at bat to batting leadoff.

I was thinking about this earlier, and I agree, at least until mitchell gets it going again. I'd switch their spots in the lineup. I'd also switch Mahtook and Gibbs.

Please don't tell me you think Mitchell is the perfect 2 hole hitter. He would be if he is a contact guy, but he isn't. Schimpf/Hanover are much better suited for that spot.

i dont know, look it up.

It can't be that bad for Mitchell, because he EASILY has the best OBP of anyone on the team.

you can deal with K's if he is getting on 47% of the time.

Mitch can hit for power when he needs, has speed to put pressure on defense if lead off guy gets on, and can bunt if need be in a tight game sacrifice situation... perfect 2 hole hitter.

wtf? the only thing you got right is that he sometimes has power.

has speed to put pressure on defense if lead off guy gets on

how does his speed put pressure on the defense when there is a guy on base ahead of him?
quote:

and can bunt if need be in a tight game sacrifice situation

how many of these does he have this year?

Mitchell is right where he needs to be in the line up. While he has not been tearing the cover off the ball as of late he is able to work the count and is an absolute tear on the base paths. Having him at lead off is a better utilization of his speed than a the bottom where he will get one less AB a game.

And Jmitch is battin a whole .010 points lower than Shimpf, with a higher OBP then both of the guys you mentioned

I think you just described our current two hole hitter minus some of the speed.

An ideal #2 guy ought to be able to execute the hit-and-run consistently. JM strikes out way too much for that.

However I would like to Mahtook and Gibbs switch places, maybe for a mid week game to see how he does higher in the line up he has been producing.

I forgot that Gibbs does switch hit which makes him a little more valuable higher in the line up.

jmitch struck out damn near 15 times in the last week. I think 4 on Fri, 3 on Sat, and 3 on Sun. I can't remember his stats for the midweek games but I'm sure he must have struck out a few times. I think you need to move him out of the leadoff spot.

Hanover is too much of a free swinger and he doesn't walk enough to hit the leadoff spot.
