Assuming Gulf Shores to PCB gets hit, which would you go too if driving from BR/NOLA. Or somewhere else?

Ages 6 months to 65 years old on the trip.

I got this message from the place I usually rent from in Orange Beach

quote:

No Coastal Impact Now and None Expected
You will be happy to know that the beautiful beaches of our Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast remain untouched by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. In the beginning of the oil spill situation there was a brief time of uncertainty when, based on official predictions, landfall on our coast seemed imminent. However, neither that landfall nor any impact near our coast ever materialized.

idk if they're blowing smoke up my arse or not

did you expect them to tell you that the situation was hopeless and you shouldn't go?

not to mention the fact that about a week ago, everyone was pretty sure no oil would be going west of the river

East coast of Florida would be a shorter and nicer drive then South Texas.

We're going to Dunne Allen next Friday. I really doubt there will be anything but beautiful beaches and emerald colored water. We thought the drive to Apalachicola would be too far for my 4 year old.

Mapquest says BR to St. Aug is 642 miles, BR to SPI is 637. The Florida route is all interstate though.

I've never been to South Padre Island, and have no idea what the beaches/hotels and condos are like.

The trip down US 59 and US 77 is just like an interstate. There are a few spots that you will need to slow down to pass through some small towns.

There is not much to look at and the stretch through Kings Ranch is about 70 or so miles with absolutely nothing. You will think you passed the same bush and the same clump of rocks every few minutes.

I have never vacationed in the area. I have worked down there so much that going for a vacation is not something that I would want to do.

Food is OK. Nothing good enough that you would want you to go back for.

Schillterbahn opened a water park there which would be good for the kids.

There are nice condos and hotels like any other major place on a beach.

I like Padre Island around Feb. and March. Not a bad drive.

If it were me, I'd head to Orange Beach with that crew. Inside and outside pools, the gulf, etc.

Stay at one of these.......

St aug is awesome. East coast, beautiful downtown. Things to do for all ages and can also make a day trip to Disney if you have children. You will not regret going to st aug. Also jacksonville is a little closer has nice beaches and more of a nightlife.

In the short term, Destin is going to be okay...

However, I think it's just a matter of time when the winds change and this shite ends up on the panhandle...

FYI, I'm in Destin tonight and enjoying the beaches this week.

I toke the wife and kids to St. Augustine beach this past weekend and we go every other week. Its very open so your not trapped close to everyone if thats what you like.Lot of stuff to do downtown. It's very tourist freindly. SPI seems to me a great place if your in your teens or early 20's but i have never been there but can vouch for st. augustine

White sand??? I think not. Looks more like Grand Isle to me.

SPI doesn't have white sand. I've been there many, many times. At certain times of the year the water can be a very nice blue/tourquoise though. The real draw for my family was Mexico and the great food and markets. Those days are obviously past, sadly.

Anyhow, come on down y'all!! I think there is a big water park there now too.

I was at a friends house last night, they get reports every day from Orange beach, no oil, smell, anything. She and a pack of girls are heading that way this weekend. They own a condo here.........
