Never had them, but going to Gibraltar in Miami Saturday for dinner and thought I'd give them a try. They have a cocunut/coliander sauce with mint, tomatoes and lobster oil. Sounds and looks pretty damn good. Here is a pic, along with pic of their snapper.
Should I try them?

Yes you should. Mussels are one of the best things to eat on the planet. They can be adapted to any style of cuisine.

Yes they are delicious. Especially with a good broth to dip some bread in.

Garlic, lemon, chile, butter and a little bit of orange juice. Always delicious, especially SOPPING up the juice mixture!!

mussels are succulent!

I ate them for every meal for 5 days when I was in the Cinque Terre in Italy.

Never had them. I remember one time when I was young my parents went out to dinner and both ordered the mussels.

They spent the next 3 days sick to death. Scared me silly to the point I refuse to touch them.

Yes I know it is irrational, but I think as a young kid it was the first time I ever saw them really sick.

Here, I'll save you the time.....

We ate them in PEI every day for a week. Best way was to steam them in a little water till they popped open and curled. Make a sauce with the reduced left over water with things like butter, garlic, parmesean (sp?), etc and dip. We'd buy'em fresh in burlap bags. Yum!

Steamed mussels with a broth of Belgian wit beer, garlic, and a few other things is a pretty good dish.

There's a place in Gretna called Clementine Bistro Gallerie that's half Belgian restaurant, half art gallery that serves up a good pot. Great date place.

The food there is fantastic. The atmosphere is rather odd, though. Not exactly bad, just odd.

I might have to try it sometime soon.

Though I hope this is a typo:

Marie google tyler perrys steamed mussel recipe. It resembles the way I saw them cooked by a very good French chef on St Croix. You can get them at Whole Foods.

Marie...I heated up oil and butter and sauteed garlic, shallots and chiles. Squeezed in an orange and some lemon. Put in the mussels. Let steam about 5 mins or until they are open. Shake halfway through.

Reserve juice and reduce a bit and pour over mussels. Bread for soppin is a must!!

Try the recipe in Anthony Bourdain's "cookbook". He claims its not a cookbook, but it has recipes and it is entertaining. I followed his recipe for frites and mussels and had a wonderful meal.
