Allen Iverson linked to Hornets, Magic

According to Sam Amico of NBA.com, the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic may be bringing in living icon, possible NBA blacklistee, and revered thespian Allen Iverson in for a free agent workout. Iverson's NBA future has spiraled into the unknown over the last two seasons, and while staring his own basketball mortality in the fase, AI seems to be doing his part to attempt to latch onto the underside of a roster.
Both New Orleans and Orlando would be, well, interesting landing spots. Say what you will about Iverson, but it's almost always interesting.
In New Orleans, Iverson could potentially slide in as Chris Paul's back-up at the point. Trading Darren Collison to the Indiana Pacers not only surrendered the team's top young talent, but also their only reserve PG. As of now, the team's ball-handling duties sans Paul would be designated to either Marco Belinelli or Marcus Thornton, neither of which is a particularly appealing option. Plugging Iverson into that role comes with its own problems, but the Hornets likely see Iverson as a point guard option rather than a shooting guard one.

With the roster as it is, QPon won't see the floor if this happens. I wouldn't mind AI1, though.

Belinelli appears to run the Italian team well enough so I say why not swing for the fences with our minimum contract PG spot. If the front office thinks he's ready to get his life straight and play again, no one else we can sign has even close to the same upside. In the 28 games he played last year he scored over 15 in almost half of them (13) and 20 or more 6 times. That was mostly as a starter, but it shows he still has a little bit left in the tank.

In such a short time we've gone from figuring Pondexter could start by the trade deadline to figuring he may be buried on the bench

FWIW, AI could sell tickets to all the numbskulls that are jsut attracted to big names. If for no other reason, I would like the signing for that.

Not sure how I feel about this decision. If he's okay with a bench role it could be a good move to have him on the team for a year.

Must have been a story planted by his agents.

In response to tweet called to my attention, I've been assured Hornets have not/will not express interest in Iverson. No word yet from ORL

he's proven like 10 times alreaady he can't handle not being the star. He might sign as a backup trying to score some gambling money but he'll take a crying leave of absence halfway through the season because he's not getting 25 shots a game.

This may change if we would have to give up a guard for Melo if we propose a trade to Denver. A lot of "if's"

The only way he should be on the roster is if he's there to get the vet minimum and never be active. Just keep him off the court and at Harrah's in that case.
Seriously, his hissy fit in Memphis over being demoted to a supporting player should have been the end of any discussion of him and the NBA that didn't involve him buying a ticket.

It would be a low-risk move and it brings "star power" to our roster. CP3 is impressionable enough to value things like that.

I for one don't want the retards who used to sport the AI jerseys trashing up the arena.

I DO NOT want AI. That dude has been a cancer in the locker rooms, the last couple of years.

Solid post.

I would take AI. The guy can ball and could be a solid backup to MT5 and CP3 or start ahead of MT5 but MT5 get majority of the minutes. Also this helps nola from a marketing standpoint because we are brining in a player that the nola fans would go out to see.

Considering the recent turmoil that this team has had, adding a volatile, me first guy like AI is not low risk. I think he would help more than hurt, but it's highly likely he blows up mid season and leaves us back at square one with 3 guards

Amen.
However, if AI somehow has gotten his head straight and could accept a secondary role on the team, he would be fine at the right price. Don't see it myself.

I agree with this post. AI has been horrible the last couple of years. Has he even finished a season without pouting on the bench?
