Longhorn Network Will Target High School Games, Some Out of State?

MP3 of Longhorn VP of Programming / Longhorn Network Plans for High School Games
If you're pressed for time, go about 14:20 in and hear his thoughts on the LHN’s intention to televise high school football games, particularly those games featuring Jonathon Gray, “kids that Texas has recruited and is recruiting” and perhaps a Connor Brewer (Arizona) game ...
In short, even if you are outside of Texas, the Longhorns may have designs on your state's recruits, and may be trying to feature their games in prime-time on the Longhorn Network.
1. Plan for first year is to televise 18 high school games.
2. LHN is considering televising out-of-state games if a recruit or potential recruit is involved.
3. DeLoss Dodds, UT AD, was recently quoted as saying “ESPN will select the games (high school) based on what they feel is best.”
Well, what is best for the LHN/ESPN is what is best for the horns. There is no difference.
But you'll enjoy watching SEC-area recrits on the Longhorn network, I'm sure.

I don't think kids care how they end up on TV, as long as they are on TV.

Maybe next time TAMU will grow a pair of nuts, instead of letting UT futt-buck them at the negotiation table.

Sounds like a violation to me.

what's stopping CST from focusing on LSU recruits?

Texas can cater to their own recruits by putting them on primetime television on the "Longhorn Network" and getting a leg up on the competition. But God forbid anyone let a recruit sleep on a current player's floor.

That just seems like a huge can of worms that could lead to even more money being funneled to recruits. Not to mention the "We can give you more exposure than any other school in the nation" crap Texas can pitch.

it wont matter.. they will still lose 4/5 to Oklahoma.. every other year to TAMU..

this is only half of the problem
Now they're going to televise the Rice game and one other TBD game - which just so happens to be a conference game?
turd, meet punchbowl
I actually hope UT continues to walk around like they own the fricking place, piss everyone else off, and the entire conference disbands

I just don't see how the network will last.

The network will last... the conference will not.
ESPN, like the US Govt. with General Motors, has deemed UT too big to fail.

So showing one game on an obscure cable network will sway kids from all over to flock to UT? Sounds like they are targeting games of players that HAVE ALREADY COMMITTED to UT.

really? how close to "failing" in a finacial sense were they?
If anything this gives you guys the perfect out.

I should have replaced UT with Longhorn Network. UT isn't anywhere close to failing as an Athletic Department.
However, if ESPN has invested $300 mil into the LHN, they are going to do everything in their power to make sure it gets subscribers and it doesn't fail. Make sense?
