Action Movies, Heavy CGI movies, Top Comedies and Dramas I want to see asap -----> Movie theater

Pretty much anything else I'll Netflix or stream. Sometimes I'll grab a blu ray from Redbox.

Depends on the movie.

Big-budget, visually striking, spectacles are nice on the big screen.

Depends on the type of movie and your home setup.

If you have a 30 inch TV and a regular def DVD player, go to the movies pretty much all the time.

If its a high special effect action packed movie like the super hero movies, edge of tomorrow, thr Hobbit, etc.. go see it at the IMAX

If its a regular action movie like Olympus has fallen go see it in a regular theatre.

For great dramatic movies like No country and horror movies, the movie theater experience can be cool. You're in the dark room and your experience can feed off the experience of others around you. The whole theatre jumping at the same time during a horror movie is awesome. In serious dramas, the whole theater holding their breathe at the pinnacle of the plot is awesome.

Comedies and indy movies it all depends on the weather outside. If its raining or you need a light date night, then go ahead, other wise wait for the DVD>

I find that even average movies are more enjoyable in the theater.

Once we all have 80' 4k displays most movies will be fine at home.

It is fun to experience some movies in the theater that elicit audience reactions.

I used to go all the time. Now I am pretty damn picky about what I see in the theater.

If I had the time and money (damn you $5 ICEES) I would see every movie I want to see in theatres.

This, nothing like sitting in a dark, quiet, cool movie theatre with a bag of stale popcorn. Just can't beat it.

Depends on the movie.

In the past month, I've watched Gravity and Pacific Rim at home on my couch in front of a 42 inch Vizio.

I should have seen those in the theater.

Certain movies just have to be seen on the big screen. Gravity, for instance, is not the same movie in your living room. That being said, I can never understand half of what they are saying at the theater, so I usually enjoy movies more at home where I can watch with subtitles. But I still love the spectacle, and it makes for an enjoyable family outing. I enjoy movies. I watch a lot of TV. My 80" TV might just be the greatest purchase I ever made. It's not a brag - in fact, I was a dumbass for buying one too quickly instead of waiting until the prices dropped so drastically. But as a person who really, really enjoys a good movie, it's hard to beat sitting in my recliner watching an 80" screen with a good sound system.

Theater every time. I like supporting smaller indie movies and as others have said, movies like Gravity and Avatar were made to be seen on the big screen.

i wait for the dvd release, just mainly b.c going to movies is so distracting. the nearest theater to me is downtown and its crawling with teenagers texting throughout the entire film.

at home, I can pour myself a cocktail and take bong hits, and make a snack.

depends on the movie but usually I'll wait till the DVD comes out. But something, like this coming weekend, I go see a movie in theaters because I want to see it ASAP and in theaters.

I find myself in a pickle because I go to the theatre once a week, therefore there is never anything worth a shite for me to watch at home

I definitely go to the theater to see films that have great effects like Avatar or very lengthy films like Interstellar will be. The reason is because the big screen/speakers capture the effects much better than watching at home even with a 60+ inch tv and soundbar/surround sound. Also, if I watch a 3 hour movie at home I'm more likely to get sidetracked whereas in the theater my complete focus is on the movie.
