From NFL's biggest dissappointment:

Brandon Browner: We thought it was curious when folks all offseason bemoaned the Patriots losing Darrelle Revis and Browner from their secondary, as if they were remotely connected. Revis is an all-time great. Browner was an average starter in New England, although he'll always have free drinks for life in Boston for his role in Malcolm Butler's interception. Bill Belichick knew how to cover up Browner's weaknesses. In New Orleans, opposing quarterbacks pick on him mercilessly. I went to double check ProFootballFocus to make sure including him on this list wasn't crazy and found out PFF ranks him dead last among 104 cornerbacks

He is big and slow ... everyone knows this and has known it since he came to Seattle. His value is jamming bigger receivers and bodying them up. I am pissed to see him covering smaller, speedier guys, but that should change with Lewis back in the lineup.

Our coaches have no eye for talent, either in the draft or in FA. This is a constant.

The rookies playing all over the field disagree. Perhaps its coaches not coaching up enough and putting players in bad positions as well.

No, I think Browner has plenty of talent. Our defensive coaching is lazy and somewhat incompetent in that they don't scheme with their talent in mind. Much like LSU's much ballyhooed QB situation and the offense they pigeon hole duel threat QB's into, the Saints defensive scheme doesn't work with the talent they have.

Browner is big and physical. He should be on big, physical receivers. Or tight ends. I think he has been misused so far, but that also could be due to Keenan Lewis' injury. Once Lewis is at full strength, Breaux will be the other outside corner and Browner will be able to pay his physical style against opposing teams' bigger targets.

I think Browner could prolong his career if he moves to safety. He definitely made some good stops in run defense late in the game.

Browner has his strengths and weaknesses. I agree that he is basically playing out of position right now as he is a physical CB/S hybrid. He is definitely an asset. The coaches just need enough players healthy to use him in the right places.

He's extremely talented at holding receivers on 3rd and long giving them an automatic first down. He's literally graded out as the worst cornerback in the league and some of you still try to spin this

I'm not trying to spin anything. I'm not trying to sell Saints tickets or Browner jerseys. Hell I don't care if you wipe your arse with his first born's face. But you can't just take things at a macroscopic level and say "Browner sucks".

Does he hold a lot? Yes. I don't think I'm okay with that just as much as you're not. But he's being misused right now because of injury or scheme. And that's not Browner's fault. If the Saints are going to sign someone like him and pay him a zillion dollars to play football for them, shouldn't they do their best to accommodate his talent?

He's being relied upon more because of injuries. Now with Lewis and Byrd back and the continued growth of Breaux and Swann i would expect to see him uses in more of a specialty role.

wish I knew where to find the articles I read when we signed him in the off-season, but they completely disagreed with you. They talked about how overrated he was and that the Saints would regret the signing. It's why I have been extremely cautiously optimistic with him coming here. I expected what we are seeing. Maybe not to this level of badness, but I am not surprised at all.

He is not good

Your excuse for his poor performance is "scheme" and "he should cover big receivers and tight ends." He's a cornerback not a safety. He's been awful. This isn't my opinion although I agree, it's the opinion/grade of PFF. He's been almost as bad as this comment you made

The issue isn't Browner. EVERYONE knows his weaknesses, because they've been a constant since his time in Seattle.

The issue is that we're asking him to do things beyond his abilities.

He needs a pass rush. We are asking him to cover too long. Our defensive line sucks. As much as most people hate him, I miss Gregg Williams more every game.

Lewis isn't back at 100% yet and we just found out Byrd still exists. Give it time.

I fault the coaching and implementing him poorly. He is a deluxe TE cover guy or for the bigger not as fast WRs.

Your view is literally the last glimmer of hope away from an absolute, total disaster of a move (again).

The fact that you think he's more suited to be a safety says it all, no?

I agree. Not all "Cornerbacks" play the same position. He wasn't brought here to cover and run with Ted freakin Ginn for 10 seconds while the opposing QB has no pass rush to worry about. He's here to body up guys like Vincent Jackson and Kelvin Benjamin. It's two totally different positions, the former of which he's completely unequipped to handle. If we put Kikaha at safety, he would look horrible too.

Browner has been horrible but we have to take into account the situation the staff (and some circumstances and bad luck) puts him in.

He has to realize that he isn't in Seattle or New England anymore. Seattle's defensive game plan is to cheat on every play knowing that they wont throw a flag every time and you will get away with alot. In New England they are innovators when it comes to finding new ways to cheat. Here in NOLA we don't get a quarter of the slack that they get.
