Despite being born here he has been 100% Mexico from the start. I wonder what changed his mind, or if this is just the power of the Bruce at work yet again.

FC Dallas fans rejoice.

It was awesome the other night when Acosta played against Mexico. I watched it a viewing party here in town and the Dallas people were chanting his name and shite.

I thought for sure that Bruce pulled a Jurgen and promised Gonzalez the starting job at the Gold Cup, but then Bruce said the other day that Guzan will be on the roster so that pretty much means he will be first choice.

It's an odd situation because, taking off my red, white and blue glasses, the kid is definitely more Mexican than American. He's been quoted as saying that he identifies more to that culture despite being born in Dallas. He grew up in a spanish-speaking household and you look at his twitter and he tweets nearly 100% in spanish.

I'm by no means saying that he doesn't belong with the US, I'm happy he's aboard but just interested to know what swayed him this way.

Whichever path he chose, both the Mexican and American GK pool are fairly deep with young talent so I don't think at this point in his young career you could point to one that would definitely give him a quick path to becoming first-choice.

This whole journey to this point has been weird with a lot of contradiction and misinformation.

Maybe he looked at it purely on a professional basis. Our top three keepers are 38, 32, and 37.

For Mexico, Ochoa is 31 and certainly better than Guzan.

We have a lot of good young keepers, but none of them have really stuck out as surefire successors for Howard. Johnson and Hamid have made a very small number of caps and haven't really progressed much in 4-5 years. Horvath doesn't even start in Belgium, and then there's Yarborough.

He started the last 4 games of the season after joining the club in January. Has a good chance to be the starter next season. Brugge finished 2nd in Belgium this year and will be in CL. And Horvath just turned 22 last week.

Mexico was starting that fat bald guy over Ochoa, they can't think too highly of him.

I think he's from North Carolina right? And he said he felt a ton of pressure from his family to go with Mexico.

Rumors in Dallas is that he really doesn't like having to go to Mexico for camps, and has been treated badly by Mexicans for not playing in Mexico.

This would be a great get for the USMNT. He's legit good, young and will play out of his mind against Mexico.

Least shocking thing I've ever heard.

For country that has so much "pride", they sure do leave in droves

Yeah, I think Gonzalez feels disrespected by the FMF, and perhaps sees a better path to the international game with the US. Happy to have him. Very promising youngster. Hopefully he or one of the other young guys like Horvath, Cropper, or Steffen can step up and win the job.

Nice to poach a dual-national from Mexico after losing Alex Zendejas to them last year. FC Dallas academy is doing work.

Mexico's best GK prospect is younger than him and one of the back-ups at Porto
