So Cuba is getting prepared to make a run at the U.S.? $50 million is chicken feed in military equipment.

quote:

Just days before Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel is slated to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin has reportedly given Cuba a $50 million loan to buy Russian military equipment.

Cuba’s relationship with the U.S. is becoming increasingly tense after the Trump administration’s move to reinstate the embargo on Cuba that was scrapped by the previous administration. The embargo particularly hit the country’s revenues from tourism.

The report said the talks could include the sale of armored vehicles, helicopters and small arms, in addition to replacement parts for tanks. Cuba is planning to purchase “industrial equipment” through other contracts with Russia. The arms deal with Russia signals that the communist island’s security and stability is at risk, prompting the country to look at Russia for support.

Yeah, that is chump change. Probably intended more for the infrastructure than anything else. Political move to keep Cuba’s alliance with them.

By the time the elite line there pockets, there will be about $200 left for military spending.

Removing the embargo was one of the few good things Obama did. Of course, his trip to Cuba was a PR disaster.

I agree. I’m fully MAGA but why the administration doesn’t pursue normalizing relations and expanding tourism is beyond me. If relations are normalized there is no way that democracy would be 60 miles from their doorstep and the people would not start a push in that direction.

A communist country giving Russia permission to put nuclear weapons in it 90 miles from U.S. shores might still be a lingering effect I'd think.

If you have to loan your customer the money to buy your shite, you should reexamine your business model.

That won’t even buy enough missiles to destroy a carrier group if every missile hit its target

If Miami dissidents are Cuba's greatest threat , then that and a few slingshots will suffice. Wouldn't take much to get them on inner tubes back to Little Havana.

Probably some money to patch up old Soviet weaponry as well.

We probably spent that much money on rounds for the Barrett M107A1.

Hell we probably spent that much on cotton wipes to clean our firearms.
