My take on UCF and other G5 "powers"

UCF fans constantly complain that they don't get a fair shot at a national title. What they need to do is schedule tougher P5 games. However, both sides need to agree to games years in advance. Not many programs would want to schedule UCF for fear of losing. Therefore, UCF will never get a shot at a title because their schedule will never be strong enough due to no premier programs wanting to play them. Even if they do land a matchup with a quality P5 team, there's no guarantee that the P5 team will be good when the matchup actually occurs.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, and it's perfect. It's the way things should be. By refusing to schedule G5 stalwarts like UCF, actual top programs can ensure that those G5 programs never get a shot at a title. Of course, this eventually leads to the coaches of those G5 powers taking jobs at P5 schools, further widening the gap (in both performance and reputation) between the P5 and G5.
In short, the cycle is:
-G5 team does well
-G5 team gets rightfully criticized for a weak schedule
-G5 team tries to get stronger schedule
-G5 team gets rejected by P5 teams they want on their scheudle
-G5 team gets their coach poached by a P5 team.
-Rinse and repeat.
It's a perfect cycle that ensures that the G5 stays where they belong.

UCF got screwed by hurricanes both this season and last because it forced them to cancel games vs Power 5 teams both seasons...Georgia Tech last year and North Carolina this year. Not exactly premier P5 opponents, but at least they were trying to schedule P5 schools. Next year they have Stanford on the schedule.

I was wondering the same thing. And I love when a team like Boise st wins a game vs Oklahoma and the mouth breathers come out saying 'well anyone can win ONE game'....

That was the exact excuse that the mouth breathers used when they beat Auburn.
They will continue to use that excuse because they are so damn devoted to the current selection system and this belief that FBS should only cater to the P5, which is retarded.

Group of schools get together and form conference, these schools decide who gets in said conference. Same group decides who they play against. This same group decides the committee that gets to decide who plays for the national championship. Meanwhile fans of this group criticize fans of schools that have been excluded (purposefully or not) because of metrics they weren't allowed to obtain.
FBS football is an oligarchy that has allowed a select few to select the rules by which they play, and then reign in the profits (actual $, recruits, prestige by association) while continuing to refuse others at the table. Over the last 20 years the P5 programs have successfully profited from a system with rules they set and from a name and distinction that is shared.
Not scheduling games against good programs outside the group, and then penalizing those programs allows the P5 schools to continue to reap massive benefits and broaden the gap both in perception and reality. The whole FBS system needs to blow up, relegate the bottom feeders to FCS where they can be competitive and then create a true playoff system. Want to see real parity? Let teams like La Tech, ULL, Houston, Marshall, App State, UCF, etc. that have proven they can play and will invest get a piece of the big pie and have a real shot. Want to see an impact in TV and gate revenue? Let 100 schools go into the season with the ability to win their conference and play for a national title. Want the to make FBS great again? Blow it up and lets start seasons with a legit field and not with a list of five to six teams that could win.

With the committee now my scenario will be moot point but in terms of SOS and the old BCS computers, what if the G5 schools colluded and only scheduled among themselves? How would the computer know the difference between an undefeated Bama beating a 1 loss UGA versus a undefeated UCF beating a 2 loss Army? Assuming the records among the rest of the G5 mirror what we see among the P5 since many of the good G5 programs are now 1 and 2 loss teams and don't take a couple of losses when they play P5 rivals?

LMAO. You're basically saying everyone deserves a cookie simply for existing.
If UCF wants to make this a reality then go out and make it happen.
Asking for help (welfare) is pathetic.
Make big schools turn you down. Schedule 4 of them per year. Go independent if you need too. Plenty of options but they'd rather whine.
Typical feminist behavior

In short, the cycle is:
-G5 team does well for a year,
-G5 team gets rightfully criticized for a weak schedule
-G5 team tries to get stronger schedule, but hey,how many P5's keep an opening on next years schedule just in case a G5 team is really good?
-G5 team gets rejected by P5 teams they want on their schedule because G5 wants to host at their place which seats 30,000 total, with less tickets available than many elite P5 teams traveling parties.
-G5 team gets their coach poached by a P5 team. Too bad the coach doesn't have to stay and make less money. Where's his loyalty?
-G5 goes back to sucking and stupid P5 that gave them a chance gets criticized for weak schedule
-Rinse and repeat.
It's a perfect cycle that ensures that the G5 stays where they belong.
Maybe the NCAA should prohibit scheduling more than a few weeks in advance. Then if G5 starts out 5-0, a good P5 can fit them in their schedule while they're good.
Fify. You're welcome.

Simply put, no P5 wants any part of UCF right now. Why would you? UCF deserves home and home series with anybody that schedules them. I side UCF in this debate. Why should they go play mid level P5 schools on the road all the time. I'm not playing the Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa St, Missouri, South Carolina's of the world if they don't return the favor. Its not as easy of a solution as some may seem. For UCF....stay the status quo. Keep winning as many games as possible. Winning games is what builds your program, not going 2-2, 1-3 or 0-4 on the road every year vs P5 programs. Josh Huepel said they weren't going to do that and i respect that decision. UCF has a solid fan base and they deserve to get home and home series. The question remains...who is going to play them at UCF??
I believe UCF just announced 70 million in upgrades and expansion to their stadium. They have a stadium that is perfectly capable of hosting P5 schools.

I'm surprised the NC States, Syracuses, Marylands, et al of the world won't schedule UCF home and home. Beat them and you gain a little cred for your program. Plus, you get to show your brand in the Florida recruiting grounds.

quote:If anything the system you're advocating is the form of welfare. What has Michigan done other than be in a P5 conference that allows them to "have a shot" at the playoff? If they lose they still get big playoff money because they "are chosen". A team like Boise or UCF has to win to be relevant they have to do the leg work beat everyone they play outwork for recruits, work for every dollar earned and still don't "have a shot". Not only that but a team like Michigan won't play a team like UCF because it could effect their welfare system win or lose. Win and using UCF's record as a highlight gives them creedance, lose and you give G5 programs justification for earning a piece of the pie.

quote:Not losing a game in two years, beating everyone willing to play you and still told it's not enough. Why are so many P5 fans against Boise and UCF schools getting a shot? Because if they win your welfare system that gives the perception of superiority is shown to be overtly flawed.
If UCF wants to make this a reality then go out and make it happen.
quote:Not seeing the current system as welfare because it benefits your school greatly is pathetic.

Its not like UCF isn't playing legit P5 schools every year because they don't want to. P5 schools don't want to play them. They can't just pick up the phone and call Bama or UGA, or OU or USC or Michigan and "make it happen"

Exactly. UCF can’t get quality matchups because other schools don’t feel like playing them, ensuring that UCF doesn’t get the SOS needed to be respected.
