Yet every year they are hailed as a top 20 team in preseason polls. Every year ESPN and the media fills headlines with USC stories (the latest are updates on coaching and AD rumors). There is not a program in America that gets more undeserving praise, attention and hype. And for what?

USC hasn’t won a legit national championship in over 40 years. Not since the hostages were in Iran and Jimmy Carter can USC claim a legit title in football. BYU has won a more recent title and we don’t get news thrown in our faces from that ridiculous school that has stolen Yale’s logo.

Perhaps things would be different if 2003 had been different. Perhaps USC shouldn’t have lost to an unranked, 6 loss team that year. Perhaps USC should have played more than one ranked team all season. If either of those two facts had been different, usc would have earned a spot in the National Championship Game. Alas, those are the facts and USC did not play for the national championship despite the media’s most ardent efforts to give USC a free, undeserved ride to the Sugar Bowl.

Perhaps things would be different if usc of the 2000s didn’t have the most corrupt program since SMU. That title in the 2004-2005 season, the first for USC since the 70s? Vacated by the ncaa for cheating.

Perhaps things would be different if USC during that “incredible” 34 game stretch had played some decent teams (nearly every unranked OOC game for usc was a mighty struggle) and learned defense wins. Perhaps then USC could have stopped the one dimensional Vince young.

But that’s not reality. Reality is USC is a middling program over the last 4 decades that has been given every benefit possible from the media, who has tremendous king making power in CFB. Despite all that USC has been given the fact remains: zero titles in over 40 years. Fight on.

If you have to cheat to win you haven’t won.

In 2003:

Number 3 USC beat number 4 Michigan in the Rose Bowl. 6 days later the AP poll awarded them a trophy.

Number 2 LSU beat number1 Oklahoma and LSU was awarded the BCS national championship trophy at midfield immediately after the game the same way the NFL gives Super Bowl trophies.

USC’s was a lame paper championship.

USC’s 2004 trophy was taken away.

Officially in National Championship games USC is 0-1 all time.

I am not an LSU fan nor is the topic of the thread 2003. We are talking about USC having zero national titles since the 70s yet being treated by the media as CFB royalty. For what? A bunch of titles from the 40s and 50s and OJ? Notre Dame is often mocked as a program of the past but its fb history over the last 40 years is far more illustrious than USCs.

False

USC vs OU vacated due to USC paying players via agents

Vince Young just scored another TD on USCs porous defense 14 years later.

0-1 all time in championship games for usc

That's really not true. USC has more wins, a better winning percentage, more bowl wins and more weeks ranked in the AP top 10. Notre Dame has a slight edge in head-head, a stronger claim to their only National Championship, and a playoff appearance. If anything, they're equal.

4 of the NCAA's "Blue Blood" programs haven't been acting like blue bloods in quite a while.

Michigan - From the time of their last title in 48' (1948-2019) Michigan has 1 Title (97') in 71 years.

Notre Dame - From the time of their last title in 77' (1977-2019) Notre Dame has 1 Title (88') in 42 years.

USC - From the time of their last title in 78' (1978-2019) USC has 0 titles in 41 years.

Texas - From the time of their last title in 70' (1970-2019) Texas has 1 title (05') in 49 years.
