Got back yesterday from a weekend trip to Lajitas. A stunning but challenging course but also a trip any avid golfer should make.

We had a group of 15 or so guys so we did the resort charter flight out of Houston. Landed in Lajitas Friday around 11:00 and were playing golf by 12/12:30. I mentioned in my other thread I am not a good golfer, I can hit the ball fine just not consistent and don’t play often lately. Unfortunately took the suckage to a new level on the first round...between my dad and I, think we lost like 30 golf balls. Absolute bloodbath. Determined to make the next day better, I switched back to interlock grip and it miraculously cured my duck hook...was finally getting off the tee and flushing irons (though not accurate). Same for my old man, he pulled his game together and we were able to enjoy the course much more. Played 36 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday.

I haven’t played a ton of courses outside of the Southeast, so to me this course was really difficult. You have to be consistent off the tee and dialed in on irons/approach. If you shank anything left or right, not likely you’ll find it l...and if you do, not likely you can play it. The greens were tricky too, some really tough pin locations, very firm, and lots of false fronts/big ridges. I scratched out a 103 playing from 6800yds, I think low score of the trip between all 15 guys was 85 or so. Regardless, the course is absolutely gorgeous and fun to bomb shots from elevated tees. There is nothing around for miles and it’s very serene. I’d recommend anyone reading this to get a group together and make a trip there.

IIRC, it worked out to around $400ish per person round trip. I want to say all in it was around $1,000 per person...but that’s including breakfast/lunch/dinner/large bar tabs for two nights.

Damn, that's pretty cheap for the flight included. The alternative would be fly to midland drive a couple hours from there it looks like.

Can fly to El Paso too.

I think that’s what the price worked out to, that could have also been a group rate since we had nearly half the seats. Plane can carry 30.

Del Rio, TX also has a flight or two a day on American.

I believe I could lose a dozen balls on that layout and find at least that many rattlesnakes. No thanks.

I walked up on 2 different rattlesnakes at the Palmer Course at La Cantera in San Antonio.

Believe me, that will get you attention.

I was bite by a water moccasin on False River as a kid, but I don't want any part of a rattler.

Strangely, didn’t see a single snake. Just giant wasps that I think were harmless unless provoked and some road-runners.

Moccasins are worse than rattlers IMO.

Venom type is different and moccasins MUCH more aggressive. Rattlers want you to leave; moccasins are belligerent.
