If you ever get the chance to play in a PGA Tour Pro-Am

My wife and I were cleaning out a closet today and I found a Silver Tray along with a set of 8 Saworski Crystal glasses for 2nd place in a Shell Houston Open Pro-Am.
Brings back some great memories. I was lucky enough to play in over a dozen Pro-Ams because of my job and it was an awesome way to entertain customers.
The best guys that I played with were Billy Ray Brown, Jeff Maggert and John Daly. I got lucky with the Daly paring, some Shell guys had to bow out and my group got bumped up.
That day was a blast and to this day I have never heard a golf ball make the sound that Dalys made taking off.
Worst guy was Curtis Strange, he talked to us on the first tee and the 18th. He was a real jerk that day and I was embarrassed for my customers that day.
Through the years, I played with Bill Hass, Dan Forsman, Ian Woosman and a young Jordan Spieth in a AJGA junior tournament.
Most of the guys were really great and they helped and encourage us the whole round, Woosie was a hoot and he pounded beers with us after the awards dinner.
If you ever get the chance, cherish it.

Strange comes off as a chode.
My dads good friend got paired with Duval in a Compaq Classic pro am and he said the dude didn’t say a word the entire round. Not one word

You played with him as a junior in the event or in the Junior pro am.
I got to play in the Valero Pro-AM with DiMarco and my neighbor.
Dan Forsman in the junior pro-am at Breckenridge in downtown San Antonio. I think he shot 60 pre renovation.
Got to play with Arnold at Bay Hill with my dad, that was pretty special, many years later was told he was pretty drunk.

That’s fricking incredible.
What did he shoot?
What did he talk about?
That is absurd.

Played in the Pro-Am and he was our junior golfer. He was very polite and he shot a 67 on his ball that day. His Dad was a very nice guy as well.

What a awesome treat for you and your Dad.
I got to shake his hand at the opening of the Palmer Course in San Antonio at La Cantera.

This is my bucket list thing to do. Gunna save up the money and just pay my way in for a spot. The way they’re set up now you get to play with one pro for 9 and a different one the next 9. Expensive as hell unfortunately

I was 16 and just wrapped up my first year at IMG and was probably at peak performance. He gave me one word of advice, don't ever be afraid of any pin position. Pretty impressionable for a kid and I think was the one piece of advice that I've always stuck with. He kind of caddied for our group telling us where to hit it and me specifically where to miss. After 5-6 holes he pretty much knew my game and said aim here and swing 100/90/75% and it was like clockwork. You could tell his mind was still 100% but his age was getting the best of him.
He was 73-75, we played in 2005 so whatever his age was then. He didn't play all 18 but hit just about every tee ball and then moved his ball to be around others. His putting was still very impressive for a guy his age, mainly because he knew the greens with his eyes closed.
After the round we caught lunch with the whole group, probably 18-20 in total (through one of my dad's company's suppliers) and he was what everyone remembers - the ultimate gentleman and story teller. Everything from being a young boy in the game to his last round at the AP Tourney which was clearly one of the most important weeks of the year to him.

I’ve only been able to play in a Hooters Tour “pro-am” several years ago when the tour came to Calvert Crossing. The pro we drew was a total jerk. He kept hitting lay-up shots and irons off the tee which didn’t help out team cause. Yes, he was practicing for the event, but he did nothing to help us. When we made the turn one of my partners was talking to a couple of pros on the putting green and he told them we were the only team playing an “Am-Am” and the other players broke down laughing saying that our pro was a prick and didn’t talk to anybody on tour either.
Unfortunately, the other pros repeated the “Am-Am” comment when our guy came out of the clubhouse and the rest of the day got even worse, so we just got lit and ignored him too.
On a side note, Zach Johnson was in this field and it was only a few years before his Masters win. Of course non of us had heard of him at that point in time.

Any idea how much the pga championship tour pro-ams are? Seems like it would be more in my price range right now. Plus I enjoy the hell out of going to those events. Been to the woodlands event 4 years in a row. Yes I’m poor.

For the Zurich Classic, I think the Monday pro-am is about $2K. The Wednesday pro-am is closer to $7K.

I haven't played in a PGA Tour pro am, but I did get to be the walking scorer in a Zurich pro am at the TPC several years ago, and I knew a couple of the guys playing in that group. Kevin Streelman was the group's pro, and he was great. Very personable, and super smart guy about a whole bunch of topics (guess that was the Duke in him). I'd love to play in one of those events, but dang, that's a lot of money.

That ain’t bad. I would imagine the Houston tour stop is about the same.

The one Champions Tour event that I played in was about half of the entry fee of the regular tour.

Awesome. I’m definitely going to look into it whenever the hell they come back.

My first and only encounter with Curtis was at Sea Island after I had a lesson with Jack Lumpkin. Dude was a complete arse.
Woosie is someone I would like to hang with. Been around Daly a couple of times during Masters Week. Never really seen him sober.

Daily asked us if we minded if he smoke, we said no and he played about half the course with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
Great guy though, really took some time with my customers and gave them pointers.
