The wife (no pics) wants to go to the silos for our anniversary. What else can we do while we’re in town?

That's about it
I would go to Austin, it's doable from Waco

Silos so overrated
Would rather go to Pawhuska to the Pioneer Woman's place

yeah I'm trying to think of a helpful answer but I just cannot fathom Waco as an anniversary destination. Its an easy drive to Austin or Fort Worth. Hell Even College Station. I'd go for one of those and make a side trip to shiplapville

edit: looks like I'll be driving though twice tomorrow. I'll let you know if I discover something that's not a depressing shithole. Maybe the twin peaks where wacos finest mowed down those bikers would be a good anniversary dinner spot.

Even the Magnolia shite sucks.

Mount Carmel Massacre Site. Northeast of the city. Hwy 2491 (Elk Rd) about five miles east of Loop 340. You'll come to a split in the road, but stay on 2491 which bears to the left. The Mount Carmel property is a short distance on the right. No entry if the gate is closed.

Go take a tour of Balcone's Distillery. International award winning Whiskey made here.

Go to the Dr Pepper museum. Dr Pepper was invented in Waco.

Go to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Go to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.

Take a hike in Cameron Park. One of the largest City parks in the nation located within a City. Lots of hills and great mountain biking.

If you have kids, go to the Cameron Park Zoo or the Mayborn Museum.

Walk around Baylor Campus and/or take a hike down the riverwalk.

Go to the Farmer's Market downtown open from 9 - noon on Saturday mornings.

Eat a "Gut Pack" at Vitek's BBQ (as seen on numerous TV food shows and written about in Texas Monthly).

Have a drink at Barnett's Pub downtown or a meal at Milo's (big LSU fan owns this restaurant).

Have a chocolate malt at Health Camp (a misnomer name for this restaurant).

Get a great chicken fried steak at George's (2 locations). Old honky tonk.

Waco is the home of Starburst and Snickers (made at the M&M Mars Factory), George Bush's ranch, Magnolia (over 3,000,000 visitors a year), Dr Pepper, Balcone's Whiskey, great BBQ and home cooking. You would be surprised how many LSU fans made a day trip and drove from DFW to Waco when LSU played football at Jerry World in Arlington.

I grew up in Lake Charles, but have lived in Waco for over 35 years. Great town. Let me know if you need any other restaurant recommendations.

That would be about the only reason to head to Waco.

update -

After driving through twice yesterday here is my report:

- construction continues to suck balls. After missing my exit in the construction mess I ended up right outside of Baylor's toilet bowl on the Brazos. It looks even shittier close up than from the highway.

- Stopped for some fast food south of town on the way back through and while I'm waiting the most white trash car in existence (mustang) pulls in behind me fast and all kinds of crooked and some trailer park special jumps out screaming the screams of limited vocabulary and a meth habit. Her head was shaved except for a circle right up top about 4" or so in diameter which was long and in a ponytail of sorts. Her man exited the driver side and I readied for a quick exit with one hand on the wheel and one on my pistol when I realized their dog had somehow escaped the car and this was the source of the nonsensical tirade. I regret not shooting the dog.

So my recommendation for a great anniversary dinner is to get some schlotzsky's to go and take it over to the McLane stadium parking lot.
