If you glance at this board you’ll see a common theme: “everything is high” or “everything is booked”. If we are in a downward spiral economically, you sure as shite couldn’t tell it. Americans are traveling and spending money like it’s easy.
Sticker shock for condos and hotels and rental cars and crowded beaches. Cabins booked through Christmas already. I don’t know what to make of it!

What you can make of it is that Americans can all see that the pandemic is largely coming to an end in this country in the next 2-3 months, and in that time frame, every adult who wants the vaccine will have it -- and all those people want to travel, because travel has been so restricted for the past year.
But most international travel is still restricted. You can't go to most European countries, or to Australia -- right now, you can't even go to Canada. Lots of people who would ordinarily take a foreign trip will stay inside the US. So, domestic flights, hotels, and car rentals will be very high for the near future.

People have been mostly locked up over a year and now the government has been sending everyone checks. They're ready to rock and roll.

All good points. Also factor in the number of people that can't take cruises right now who are wanting to travel.

In addition to people wanting to get away the travel industry has a lot of lost revenue to recoup and will try to raise prices.

I do a lot of business in Canada. Customers have been waiting for us to install equipment for a year + in some cases. Never realized what a draconian shithole they've created there until all this happened.

This is the direct answer to OP's comments. It's crystal clear why there is an issue. Anywhere that we can go right now is crowded/busy because everywhere else is restricted.

It's just like last summer when home improvement products were hard to find.
You have high demand, limited supply, and excess cash (thanks to the government checks).
