United States of MLS v. Canada Dry Ginger Ale | Gold Cup, Group B | 4pm CT (FOX)

I don't think I've ever been this intrigued by a Gold Cup group stage match, especially one where the stakes are fairly low considering we've both already advanced to the knockouts. But this is the first time this largely unknown quantity of a team will get tested and it could go a long way in telling us how serious this team will be in terms of contending for this Gold Cup and how serious some of these guys are in contending for spots in matches that matter with the A-squad.
Also, you have to feel like Gregg wants to punish Canada every chance he gets considering his most embarrassing loss in his USMNT coaching tenure was that Nations League loss to Canada with a subbed off/pissed off Pulisic on the bench.

Going for 17 wins in our last 20 matches. Losses in that span to Mex, Swiss and that one bad loss you’re referring to against Canada.
Can make it 10 straight wins over CONCACAF today too.
The competition is real now. Here’s to playing 4 more games.

I’m hoping Gregg doesn’t try to get too cute with his shitty winger situation and just goes back to a 5-3-2/3-4-1-2 like we got against Martinique. Running with the wing backs and two forwards minimizes our weakness and maximizes our strengths. And please god keep Yueill and Lewis off the field.

I’ve already seen one predicted lineup with a midfield of Yuell, Roldan and Lleget. I see Roldan’s value, but I don’t understand why we wouldn’t roll with Busio, Williamson and Lleget, with Roldan the first to sub in depending on the need. If Yuell does start, let’s just pray that it’s simply for rotation purposes ahead of knockout stage, and that he’d have a short leash.
I can’t see Lewis starting again unless we have an injury.

This. Williamson is our McKennie/Musah replacement. Busio does everything Yueill does, but better. Let Lletget start this game at the 10 spot.

Greg, it is not Christmas. Keep that Yule log on the bench!

Just a few more hours until the boys take the Canucks to pound town

Listening to the pregame conference Reggie cannon mentioned the team being most comfortable with a 3 at the back. He then paused and was like “but we’re equally comfortable with four at the back.”
great catch Reg

Ives predicted this lineup:
Not the 3 man backline I want to see but not horrible for our personnel if for whatever reason we’re stuck on the 4 man backline idea. I think Hoppe deserves to start but that doesn’t happen with a 3 man back line because the two forwards would end up being Dike, who is undroppable, and Zardes. I thought Sands was pretty good and needs to start but that would necessitate the 3 man backline. Lletget and Acosta are rested and ready to start. I would prefer Busio to Roldan/Williamson but they play all play slightly different roles.

Stakes are NOT low.
Group winner avoids Mexico until the final. Not to be underestimated.

I mean, we’re going to have to play them regardless.
Losing to them in the finals is not going to feel any better than losing to them in the semis

Assuming Mexico doesn’t shite the bed vs El Salvador

I care in the sense that this is the first real test for whoever plays. I actually like that we didn’t tie them on goals scored, because it means we have to go for it and take chances against a team that can hurt us if we’re not on our game.

I think you have two options since we've already clinched advancement. Either rest who you view as your starters for the quarters, or roll with your best XI and try to win the group. I'm ok with either decision.
