What's NOLA like right now?

My brother is coming into town for the week and he is bringing his wife who has never been to Louisiana. We wanted to go down to NOLA so she can experience it but with IDA i'm not sure if its a good idea. I heard that some places in the quarter have power... can anyone confirm this?

Are you serious? The place is devastated by a hurricane and you want to take your wife on a site seeing trip?

Wow ok,
Well it's not my wife. It's my brother (who grew up here and hasn't been home for years) and his wife (who has never visited Louisiana.) They were asking me questions about how bad the area was and I wasn't sure, thought I could ask a forum to get some insight but I guess that's not using common sense.
I'm sure with being devastated by covid and a hurricane they businesses would like to open up ASAP to get their people back to work, but what do I know I don't have any common sense.
And also there were places hit harder than NOLA. It's not like I was asking if i could go down to Grand Isle still and go fishing. Which we had planned and had to cancel.

I wouldn't have gone to NOLA before the hurricane. Just put on a hoodie, piss next to her foot, and then rob her. Kinda the same thing and you don't have to travel.

I mean I get it lol, I live here. She is a sucker for architecture, art and other things like that. It's more about seeing the statues(whats left of them) and buildings. Was going to try to get her some good food.

I don't think many things are open. Even places that have power have staff with damaged property or that evacuated out of state and haven't returned yet.

Nola is a LOT better off than other places but a lot of shite was shutdown because of power and wind damage. This isn’t Katrina of anything for Nola.
By next week I expect a lot more things to be open but it’s not going to be normal for a few weeks.
FQ and what not is pretty up and running though from my understanding.

It's real bad. It looks like a hurricane just went through there, you know, because it did. Half of the city is still boarded up with sand bags and sleeping homeless in front of their doors.

It’s bad.
Unlike most on this thread, I do/would visit New Orleans. But I wouldn’t go for another month or so. Lot of recovery going on and no need to get in the way of things.

If you want your sister-in-law to ever want to return to NOLA I would certainly suggest not bringing her now. Yes, somethings are opening but much of the city is just getting power, there are trees and debris everywhere, few restaurants are open and from what is being shared, charging high prices, difficult to find gas with out long lines and street lights are still out places so traffic is not great. There are work trucks blocking streets to straighten power poles and pick up debris. Homeless is more out of control than ever.
Two or three weeks from now, maybe. This soon, I would suggest not.

Agreed. Things are definitely reopening, but the stench
The CBD smells worse than Bourbon at 4am in the middle of summer. We need the weed smokers to come back and freshen the air.
