Disney World Mardi Gras Week

Not really looking for advice here. I just wanted to say that over the years reading the travel board, y'all have talked about how important it is to make memories and to schedule trips at least once a year. The kids don't know it yet, but for Christmas they will find out we have a trip planned for Disney in 2022. We went to Universal this past Mardi Gras Week. Wife and I decided it was better to give the boys another memory over more junk. Thanks for all the trips and advice y'all have shared over the years. I am always very thankful for y'all's knowledge and experiences shared.

We do this trip every two years. The wife and I do something every other year.
I have never once regretted taking the kiddos to Disney.

We really debated hard on this. We lost half our house during the hurricane and rebuilding yet again after the 2016 flood. To say money is tight is an understatement. But for the second time, we have had to go through and throw stuff away that got smashed or soaked. It brings to life how much you buy that you didn't use or never needed. So instead of buying toys the kids will play with for a few weeks, we decided to make it work and go to Disney. We won't be able to go nuts on stuff down there, but we got the memory picture thing to get lots of photos, and will enjoy a park a day for four days. My sister moved down there beginning of last year so we get to visit her as well.

You’re kids will enjoy the moment. You’ll enjoy their reactions forever. I was big mad the first time my wife talked me into it. It has absolutely been some of the best vacations I’ve ever been on.
I’m sorry about all of your loss, hang in there buddy.

Disney is busy during Mardi Gras, but not Xmas busy. Tons of South Americans on their summer vacation (south of the equator)

We are discussing tonight the order to see the parks in so we go ahead and book the park reservations since we need that and the ticket... What are y'all doing? I know some people recommend doing Magic Kingdom First since it's the castle and all. I was thinking Magic, Animal, Epcot, and ending it with Hollywood. But no real reason for each.

No clue. My wife does Disney planning on the side so she is setting everything up.

If you are staying at one of the hotels, check to see if any of the parks are doing magic hours (I know they stopped that w COVID), if so go with those parks those days.
Also, pay attention to what’s open at animal kingdom; you may be able to knock that out in 1/2 day if it’s really cold.
You need to pick your parks to book, but can always change the park until you use your ticket
Get to the park early, when we went last year some days they were opening an hour early; plus you may be able to jump on 1-2 of the big rides right away

Thanks for the advice. I haven't been to Disney since 2000 when I was in high school. The best ride then was Space Mountain (closed when we were there due to some repairs) and Aerosmith's rock n roller coaster. I look forward to seeing all the changes. Are there any rides comparable to Hagrids or any of the big ones at Universal?

During Mardi Gras, Orlando becomes New Orleans East (the safer one with less murders).

We went Mardi Gras one year
Big cheerleader competition and they upgraded us from Carib beach to Polynesian
Can’t complain about that
As early poster mentioned it was Brazilian vacation as well with plenty of tourists from there

Several of the blogs have crowd calendars that show estimated crowd levels for each park by day. Might be worth checking out. We’ve used that in the past and it has seemed to work out well. Based on our last couple of trips (within the past 12 months) Hollywood Studios is the one you need to manage the most. First trip was so crowded you couldn’t really do much of anything and the second was much better. Crowd was smaller and they’d made improvements as to how they were handling things.

You'll see plenty of purple and gold and black and gold at Disney that week.

If you are undecided and dining is a big deal to you I’d suggest at least narrowing it down to 2 potential parks per day by 60 days out for the purpose of making dining reservations. You can make changes up until the day before on most but the more popular ones will book up.
