I know Picanha isn't exactly a secret to most of this board, but I'm still shocked that many people are clueless about this cut. Most quality affordable cuts (skirt, hangar, etc.) have gone way up in price, but I'm always able to get Picanha for less than $10 a pound. Yesterday I bought several whole Prime Picanhas for $5.99 a pound on sale at HEB. I'll probably go pick up a few more and vacuum seal them today.

If you haven't tried them, give them a shot. I'm not saying they'll make you forget about ribeyes, but for half the price, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Apparently a lot of people. It used to be cheap and now it’s starting to creep up in price.

It’s worked its way into my rotation since I’ve been seeing it in groceries. But, it will never replace a ribeye for me.

Y'all all just need to shut the hell up. Doesn't take a genius to know that when something becomes sought out, the prices go up.

It's a cut taken from the top of the rump, and the fat cap is left on during cooking. It's very popular in Latin America, especially Brazil where it's pretty much considered the king of cuts. It's gaining popularity in the U.S., but it's still pretty affordable.

I'd say I still prefer ribeye, but it's incredible for the price.

Picanha is very good, but I don't see it much around by me. I have found and cooked it in the past. While I still prefer a ribeye, it's a very nice piece for a steak. It's much better than the NYStrip in my experience.

The place close to me that sells it calls it Coulotte. I don’t see it that often but it’s very good!

I wish I could find it in more stores. My local cattle farmer will have some cut occasionally, but it’s not consistent.

the rancher that sells at the Hammond farmers market usually has it, I buy it when he does. Excellent cut that actually tastes like beef

Yes. I buy Picanha (sirloin top cap) at Costco. I think it has gone from $5.99 to $6.99 a pound. Have to trim a good bit of fat so the price per pound goes up a bit, but still a good deal when it comes to steak.

And it is delicious.
