but it has good things like schools
Are other cities that much worse off than LC as far as schools go. I'm familiar with the quality of the schools mentioned, but there a lots more bad schools, no?
All I'm saying is that I don't think "good schools" when I think about LC. I guess lsu777's numbers are hard to argue with though. I'm just surprised.

I had Darrell's for the first time Saturday night. The Special was the best Poboy I have ever put in my mouth. I don't know how I have been missing out for so long.

Agreed. I need to ask for a brisket/sausage combo next time

In baton Rouge, Shreveport, Nola pretty much every school is like Lagrange. Pretty much failing your kid if you send your kid to public schools. Pretty much the same in Alex and even Monroe itself.
Lafayette and LC are the exceptions. Pretty much all the others only have magnet or private schools as only real acceptable option.

In all honesty it's the people there that make that place terrible. They all think that THEY are the real Louisiana and that their shite is better than everyone else's because it's country and small town.
And on top of that it's like they all think their opinion matters. Like here's a news flash LC, not everyone in the world is a white conservative bible thumper. One very valuable thing I learned growing up in BR is to keep your opinion to yourself if you don't know someone well. There are too many different cultures mixed together in a larger city to be throwing around brash statements about your beliefs and opinions.
So if it wasn't for that...then I might be a little more enthusiastic about some of the things the city has to offer, but because of this I can't stand that fricking place.
Gtfo Sulphur Trash.
Barbe RULES GO BUCS
All jokes aside, I moved to Lake Charles in 7th grade from private school Baton Rouge. It was a tough transition and took a while for everyone in my family to make friends. They are tight knit over there. I had someone tell my mom that they didn’t have time for new friends once.

Everybody is pretty respectful to each other, in my experience. I have never seen anyone say or insinuate that we're the "real Louisiana."

Not trying to be rude or anything but the same can be said for exactly what you're doing in regards to LC. I go to Baton Rouge when I can and it's always fun for me.
There are jerks in any city. I'm proud of being from here.
Again, not trying to be rude or disrespectful. Sorry you had that experience here.
Anyway, sorry for the

Not sure who you were interacting with that gave you this impression but I have yet to get that vibe from anyone here. Not saying it isn't possible, there are jerks in every city. LC is no exception. I was born and raised here.
He was hanging out with lower class contractors. The kind that chase expansions and half are not even from here.
Hell I grew up here and wouldn't want to be stuck hanging with those people
I'd br miserable too. That's why I don't hang with those people

It was a lot of contractors, but not necessarily all of them were "lower class." That is if you don't consider the home office lower class. Most were locals who were lifelong residents of the LC or Sulphur area. Again very proud that their city was small and did not take kindly to outsiders.
The absolute worst are the Oberlin/Oakdale/Mittie crowd though. Followed closely behind by Creole/Cameron.

I don't think you are being rude, but let's be real, this is an internet message board basically made for throwing around your opinion. I'm pretty sure that's why people come here at least.

Don't get me wrong, everyone should be proud to be from where they are from. I mean home is home. I just think that if there were more open-mindedness by the people in that region, it would be much better than it is. Let's take Moss Bluff for example. A very nice suburb, but they won't let restaurants and development in there because the old money wants to be secluded. What they are failing to realize is all that development will bring them more money in the future.

Well said. I think every small town is sort of like this. Lake Charles, despite being the 6th largest city in the state, still wants to be a small town in many regards.

Oh yeah I always used to say LC was a smaller version of BR (this was 2001-2008 BR). Similar mindsets about growth. Lafayette (out competition) always had a growth mindset. LC has a lower ceiling and higher floor because of it. We are just more "steady". Used to make me so mad when I was younger but it's fine to me now. I'm not married to LC or anything but it I move, I doubt it will be anywhere in this shitty state.

Maybe I’ve eaten at the wrong places but New Orleans cooking and LC is not even comparable. But maybe I’m just used of our areas cooking but I’d put LC over New Orleans any day.
LOL at the Lake Charles people getting in a tizzy over Darrell's and the LC food scene slights but making sure to spend time insulting the BR food scene as if LC's is appreciably better.

Lake Charles has better cajun food than Baton Rouge.

mandeville and the whole north shore are more of a suburb. But yes they have great schools. But its not one of the largest cities in LA.

It was decent, but I was a little let down. Also, what ‘s with no French fries or onion rings?

Where did you see me insult Baton Rouge food because I didn’t. I love Baton Rouge food. I like Darrels but I’m not crazy about it.

No, I agree with that. Especially the old money part. Anyway, sorry you had a bad experience.
