I follow a guy on youtube who occasionally does blind taste tests comparing Great Value (Walmart) to the name brand. The name brand almost always wins.

Today he put one out comparing Kirkland (costco) to name brands, and Kirkland won every single match, something I've never seen on his blind taste tests.

What generics/store brands do you like better than the name brand?

For me, I think the Kroger brand popcorn is as good or better than Orville Reddenbacher and half the price.

Not going to say it is better than all name brands, but Great Value ice cream is better than many name brands and is much less.

I'll usually go with Publix brand canned goods over named brands, except for diced tomatoes used in an Italian dish.

Dollar General sells knock off Girl Scout cookies that are just as good as what the Girl Scouts sell. A lot of the Clover Valley stuff is mediocre at best, but those cookies are a good buy.

Kirkland
kirkland is the gold standard, because they are rebranded “name brand” goods. For example, Kirkland aluminum foil is made by Reynolds, Kirkland coffee by Starbucks, Kirkland cranberry juice by ocean spray, etc…

The Market Side (Walmart) chicken sausage with some other stuff in it is better than the more expensive brands like that one Aidells and some others.

The Great Value sliced jack cheese with habaneros is my go to sandwich cheese. Better than Sargento.

It's been 40 years but I used to eat the shite out of the Winn Dixie brand iced cookies with the chocolate on one side and vanilla on the other. My grandmother always had those for me and I would do my best to take out the whole pack when I was there. They may or may not actually be good, but I thought they were back then.

Almost all generic grocery products (outside of Great Value) are usually the grocery store paying to use those products and package it under their own brand.

Kroger Private Selection brands are good. Their ice cream in particular. Sauce condiments too.

I use a good bit of tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste when cooking and I use the Kirkland brand. The sauce is nice and thick right out the can, the paste is right there with any name brand product and the only gripe I have about the diced tomatoes is they are diced larger than I generally prefer.

However, that is an easy fix. I pout the contents through a small strainer to eliminate the liquid and then just use my hand to crush the tomatoes a bit smaller.

Also their Kirkland Vodka, Gin and Rum are great for mixers and a hell of a bargain.

Those are not the only products under the Kirkland brand I prefer, but you get the drift.

I know a manager at Flowers Bakery (Evangeline Maid bread) he claims that they bag Evangeline Maid bread in Great Value bags for Wal-Mart. I've tasted it but don't seem to think it's the same as EM bread ? A few months later I met another guy that worked at Flowers on the line and he too said they make the bread for Wal-Mart. I don't see why they would lie about it, but maybe they make a different recipe for Wal-Mart that is less expensive ?

I don't know that I like any store brand better than the name brand, but on alot of shite, I really can't tell the difference.

Winn Dixie has a good selection of store brands.

Matt Mitchell?

I love him. His Bless Your Rank introduced ne to my favorite fast food biscuit, from Jack's.

Anytime we drive home to BR, we stop at a Jack's when we pass through Alabama.

Wonder bread is not that good. Do you have Bunny bread, it's the same Flowers Bakery that makes Evangeline Maid bread here in Louisiana ? Bunny is so much better than Wonder.

Walmart is selling generic chips now. I bought the generic Fritos for $1.26 a bag. Better than the name brand.

SE Grocers spices if you still have a Winn Dixie around. The Winn Dixie brand as a whole isn’t bad for a generic brand. I’m glad our Winn Dixie didn’t turn into an Aldi after they bought them out. I guess being the largest grocery store (not counting Walmart) and probably the most profitable grocery store in the Parish had something to do with that.

Tator tots. Something always seems off with the Ore Ida seasoning.

Nah, they turned the busiest Winn-Dixie in the company into an Aldi, they don't care about the Winn-Dixie brand, they wanted the location.
