Ham....I hate ham on any occasion unless its in a well dressed sandwich. Really got sick of it because my wifes family are pretty bad/lazy cooks so every holiday every year was just a warmed up ham.

The good thing about bland mash potatoes is you can kinda save them table side if they’re hot. Grab some butter and S&P

I think they’re more common in places that don’t eat as much white rice as we do in south Louisiana. Our family usually has turkey gravy over rice.

Don’t get the hate for mashed potatoes in this thread. You’ve got to think a few steps ahead. They make for an incredible binder for the rolls and other items on the plate, or better yet, you can create a vessel for a gravy bath.

i dont think i have a most hated. everyone in my family cooks well enough that each version is ok to good.

i guess if i had to pick something, yams. just not a fan of yams.

edit: and i did have a great aunt that would start giving away fruitcakes away during thanksgiving, so does that count? Not good fruit cake either, if there is such a thing.

Another vote for green bean casserole. Nobody makes it in my family, but I've had it at ex in-laws before. It's horrid.

I love mashed potatoes. I just said we don’t have them for Thanksgiving dinner.

Wasn’t directed to you, the thread in general.

I never touch the raw vegetable plate. Waste of table space.

Mashed potatoes are always in nearly every thanksgiving cooking spread I read, but strangely, my family has never done them and nobody I’ve ever visited for thanksgiving has done them.

Same. You can eat Mashed Potatoes anytime.

Turkey itself is pretty bad.

Green beans because they just take up space. Haven't cooked them in years.

And honestly? Mashed potatoes as well. Just make the much classier potato salad

Green bean casserole looks like vomit. My whole family loves it, but I hate it. Especially when you just adding a can of slop to some canned green beans topped with some fried onions. I do not, and will not ever understand the appeal. It's slop.

Agreed. I dig regular green beans but fricking green bean casserole is disgusting.

Green bean casserole. Regular ol’ greenbeans cooked down with bacon is far superior.

Usually it is. But I have a grandson, now 13, who will polish off a plate of raw veggies in a heartbeat. He has always been like that, won't eat fried food, fast food or sodas. I taught his dad to eat like that and he passed it down, both are super healthy.

I had a relative that used to bring “cherry cola salad” to every thanksgiving. It was as vile as it sounds

My wife is not a great cook but she makes the best damned mashed potatoes you’ll ever eat.
