Hans Fahden vineyards in Calistoga.

The wine is fantastic.

The event space is very interesting too. They bored large openings in the side of a large hill on their land. They refer to them as wine caves. I suggest getting a private tour if possible. Have fun.

Wife and I are joining some friends in Napa in a few weeks.

I’m not a wine person, but I see Russian River Brewery is close. That should be a definitely stop, right?

Can’t speak to that brewery but if in Sonoma- and Sonoma is a bit more my speed- I highly recommend Iron Horse as a stop on any tour of wineries.

In on Peju. Also, Jarvis is definitely my favorite tour of all, and I've done quite a few. I highly, highly recommend.

How does the driver situation work, times and prices? Would love to do that.

Hire a driver, stay in Bodega Bay, and hit Sebastopol and Russian River Valley vineyards. Maybe go see Colonel Armstrong if you can walk a little bit.

I believe it’s usually about $45/hour and they drive your rental. Lot of different businesses up there that do this.

We enjoy Napa trips (going pre UCLA game in August before heading down to LA for the game)! Some of my favorites -

Sherwin Family Vineyards - Pride Mountain (their winery burned down but they have a fabulous patio which survived and started tastings earlier this year on the patio)
O'shaughnessy Vineyard - Howell Mountain (my favorite wine both Howell Mountain and Mt Veeder Cabs)
Lamborn - Howell Mountain (not sure they still do tasting up at the winery, winery has a great view)
2 smaller boutique wineries - Monticello (good Cabs & Proprietary red) & Goosecross (we love their whites)

Any juice by Thomas Rivers Brown - Rivers-Marie - Cabs & Pinot's. He also makes wine for several other wineries.
If you've never tried great Zin - Robert Biale has great wine & a great tasting experience.

So many great wineries...so little time...

Hope you enjoy a great trip!

The Schramsberg cave tour is excellent as is their sparkling wine selections. Their cave is one of the original ones dug by hand by mostly Chinese who had finished building the railroad. Their Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine has been served in the White House more often than any other during the last 50 years.

Add my votes for:
- Schramsburg. Tour & sparkling is great, and the J Davies cab isn't a slouch either (if they have any).
- Smith Madrone. Worth the drive up Spring Mountain just for the two grumpy Smith brothers. Ask them about their love for the local government!
- and since you're already up Spring Mountain Road, Keenan makes great reds.

I'll throw in a few I haven't seen mentioned:
- Vince Arroyo (great petite syrah)
- Prager Port Works (fortified wines, red and white)
- Rombauer (great view, beautiful gardens and love/hate buttery chardonnay)
- B Cellars (all red blends)

Hope you have a great trip. Just remember that life's too short to drink bad wine.

Yep, we made that stop when we were up there.

My two favorite wineries were Hall and Peju.

Artesa

Artesa is a good stop on your way into or out of Napa. I don't particularly remember the wine and whether it was good or not, but it's a neat location with a cool fountain and cool art work.

Just getting back home this evening and couple notes:
Saddleback was just as good as we remembered. Our hostess (Angie I believe was her name) was very entertaining and made for a great start to our day.
From their we went to Aonair and had a blast. Host was amazing(Travis) and the wine was phenomenal. Ended up joining their club.
Continued up Howell Mountain to Amizetta. The wines are top notch and beautiful scenery.

Had Hendry and Elyse to start off Friday. Bought a few bottles at each place but neither blew our socks off.
Goosecross was our last stop on Friday and we had a great time. Great wine and a beautiful property.

Started off Saturday with Pride and the wine was excellent. Bought quite a bit and then went to Faust. We were very disappointed with our last stop. Beautiful scenery but the wine wasn’t very good. That plus our host was handling 3-4 groups so it wasn’t a good experience.
