Only one original Ninfa's. It's on Navigation. Highly recommend it.
I prefer the one on navigation for the nostalgia, but the uptown one has the same menu and is closer to the OP. I frequent both and can't tell the difference in food.

Lupe Tortilla
It ain't a Houston restaurant recommendation thread without the out-of-towners suggesting Lupe Tortilla fajitas.

Hugo’s
One of the best meals I ate in 2018. Solid food and cocktails.
I’d go to Houston just to eat there again.

Mama Ninfa started that one way back and sold it around mid 90's. Two of her sons opened up El Tiempo on Richmond in '98 with her recipes. So the original isn't quiet the same as it was. However, it is still good.

I think they bought it back.

Hugo’s is good but you are right next to one of the best in the city. One other poster mentioned it...
Caracol.
Mexican focusing on seafood. Best I’ve ever had

Lupe Tortilla is garbage.
Top of the Tex-Mex pile in Houston:
El Tiempo
Candente
Goode Kitchen and Cantina
Ninfa’s on Nav
As many others have suggested, Hugo's/Caracol/Xochi are best for upscale Mexican.
If you want some down and dirty stuff...La Mexicana, Tacos Tierra Caliente, Polanquito.

This and Ninfa's are the only answers. Lupe Tortilla is for the aggies
I definitely prefer El Tiempo and Ninfa's over Lupe.

Why don't you actually contribute to the thread instead of just criticizing suggestions?

Agreed. Lupe Tortillas is where you go for a normal Mexican meal near you. And I have a neighborhood place I'd rather go. Pappas are where the big parties (well, used to be) and out of towners go as well.
El Tiempo or Original Ninfas...but I certainly prefer the one on Navigation.

Mexican food in Houston - Go to Hugo's and get the roasted duck with mole poblano sauce. Outstanding. Fun place too.

Kenny & Ziggy’s is the GOAT spot of the galleria. Not Mexican though.

What do you get at Kenny and ziggys. I’ve gone twice and tried to like it but didn’t.
