Once a week is simply not enough.
You need to see if what you are doing is working. I think daily is the only way to go, but it does mean you will be pissed from time to time.
Since I am once again smack dab on a neverending plateau I AM PISSED!

So after a great birthday weekend in Houston I was up to 243 yesterday and 237.2 this morning. The lowest I got to before the weekend was 234.0, so considering I ate like a king all weekend I'm ok with it. This weekend was a planned slip in the diet anyway. I'm back on my regular diet now and shouldn't have any slips in the foreseeable future.

i would weigh yourself on monday morning and thursday morning .. and that's it .. weighing yourself everyday is like checking on your stock portfolio everyday .. both are long term commitments with many ups and many downs .. look at the cummulative picture ... monday tells you how you did over the weekend and thursday paints a picture of the week ..

my kickboxing instructor says once a month.
some people fluctuate so much you can't get an accurate idea of how much you are losing if you weigh every few days.

dont weigh every day.
once every 7 days or once every 2 weeks
weighing once a day can discourage you. Most experts will tell you this. My trainer used to weigh me once a week. I went to Pritikin Longevity center for a summer and the expert there said every 2 weeks. Never daily

You can be equally discouraged by weighing every two weeks and seeing no improvement because you didn't lower your calorie intake enough.
Once a month is lunacy.

of course you can, but once you set something that works, you trust that regimen enough to be able to weigh yourself weekly or bi weekly and not once a day.
And im my own experience, it was always easier to gauge what works over a week or 2's time rather than day to day, and be able to change your plan accordingly if it isnt working

To each his own but I need the encouragement of a dropping scale. Yes, recently I want to toss the scale out the window after having smashed it to bits and microwaved it for good measure.
But for most of this almost 8 months I have been on this diet, I needed to see the downticks of the scale more than once a week and I still say one month is sheer folly.

look at it this way .. if you weigh yourself one month and you weigh X and then wait another month and you weigh even one pound more .. then you did something freaking wrong that month ... if you do this shite day to day to day, you will drive yourself nuts .. jeez .. go back and just read all your posts in this thread ... it sounds like every night is the night before a colonscopy for you ..

Basing my recent comments on a diet that has lasted for 8 months isn't exactly a precise way to to judge things. Unfortunately since this thread started, I have hit two major plateaus both lasting over a week.
Believe me, I would be FAR angrier to go a month thinking I was doing fantastic and then seeing I lost 2 or 3 pounds.
So once again I totally disagree and could not disagree more with you.
Second, the whole point of this thread is to have a place to vent and discuss weight loss. So being stuck on two plateaus has had me stressed out. The only difference if I weighed myself less often is I would have a fewer posts and much angrier ones when I did post.

On a diet it is lunacy. If you are dieting without a scale then how do you even know if you are making any progress. Maybe some people can diet that way, which is why I said to each his own, but I would not have made it this far without constant acknowledgment that my hard work was paying off.

Been real busy at work so I am a little late with this update.
10/26 - I consumed 1426 calories. I went a did a leg workout, which was horrible. I did not push myself like I should have.
This morning, I weighed in at 232.4/226.8.
Like TigerMyth I weigh everyday because it gives you a sense of where you are at and what you need to work on. Best thing to do is weight first thing in the morning. I weigh in at 6:00 am every morning. Morning weigh-ins are best because you have an empty stomach, so you get an accurate portrayal of what your body weight really is.

I haven't been posting in this thread, but I have been keeping up with it. Do you think you have enough variety in your diet? I may be wrong, but it sounds as though you eat the same thing everyday. Perhaps changing up what you eat might be the key to getting past your plateau.
Good luck!

There are so many variables that can change your weight day to day which is why it is silly to weigh everyday. Also, many people end up quitting their programs due to the fact that they don't lose weight day to day and they freak out (much like Myth).
I'm not trying to tell people how to do things because I really don't care, but any dietician or trainer will tell you NEVER weigh day to day. I'd link the professional articles but I don't feel like looking. Feel free to google.

Quit telling me I am freaking out over day to day weight.
what part of being on an 8 day plateau is freaking day to day?
Weighing daily is fine as long as you understand it takes a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound and other circumstances such as sodium intake and simply your body can cause fluctuations.
Go back and read the thread. I haven't been freaking out daily on here. I have been upset once I have hit a plateau and if I had waited a week, I STILL would have been upset since the first one I got pissed about took over 8 days to break through and the current plateau was only 3 pounds below the last one.
Once again, this IS the place to vent so back off.

I do this too. I know I may not see loss everyday, but the days it drops are always a little rewarding. I keep an excel spreadsheet and track it every morning I wake up at home
Also, I know that when I put weight on it is when I'm not weighing everyday. It may not work for everybody but it does for me.

Myth I know you've said you eat the same meal every night, I really think it might help you to get some variety in there. Figure out a few other meals with equal calorie counts and swap them out a few nights a week. I know I couldn't keep a diet where I ate the same thing every night of the week.

I weigh every day, sometimes twice a day. But I'm very forgetful, so from one day to the next I don't remember what the previous weigh in was.
However, my official weigh in is on Thursdays at 5:00 pm and that is the only one that matters. It gets recorded, end of story.
I have noticed that if I eat more calories than normal during one week (like on a Saturday while tailgating) that the weight gain doesn't show up the following Thursday. It will show up on the second Thursday following the splurge.
To each his own!

I know my limitations. When it comes to cooking and cleaning up, if things get to be too much of a pain, that alone can cause me to drop the diet.
Plus at the moment I am worse than broke so I don't have much money or kitchen time to mix things up.
I have a burger patty and salad for dinner or lunch each day. I do vary that sometimes. And then for the other main meal I cook something in the crock pot and divide it up for 12 day portions.
Actually this week we are doing a baked spicy chicken thigh with red beans and spinach salad.
breakfast is always the same. 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of cheese.
My diet isn't just a diet. I also have to watch sodium intake and since I am doing my version of atkins/sugar busters that limits me even more.
I may get frustrated although I am not sure what they call freaking out when about the most I ever do is use the angry head smack and crying emoticons. I don't think that is freaking out.
I am in this until the one year mark which isn't until March 15, 2011.
