Gus's in Mason, TN. The first time I had it, it was a near-religious experience.

Agreed. The original Gus's out in Mason - not the franchise location in Memphis, but the true original in Mason - is the best fried chicken I've had. So dark it's almost carmelized, but not burnt, with a touch of spicy heat, nothing like the heat of Nashville chicken.

Unforgettable. Gus licensed the sign and logo to the franchisers; but he kept the recipe to himself.

Best fried chicken I've had in New Orleans is Key's Fuel Mart on N. Rampart.

Im going on whats good for me and my family and close and easy, but a small chain in rural DFW is Babes Chicken House and pretty damn good.

Its a huge place and served family style with salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, creamed corn and biscuits and honey. All you can eat sides and biscuits. Also, BYOB.

It was on Food Networks Best Thing I Ever Ate

Was coming here to post this. It is pretty salty, but definitely a treat.

I nominate Jacques-IMO’s in NOLA. Mr Ed’s is solid as well.

Piccadilly used to have great fried chicken, but haven't been to one in over 10 years. Are they still around?

I ate there a few weeks ago for nostalgic reasons and let me tell you brother… it’s pretty fricking horrible

My favorite chicken is a little short order place in Arnaudville called Knotts. They have some great food there.

In Baton Rouge it’s either the State Police cafeteria or Stockyard cafe.

For to go it’s either Blue Store or Chicken Shack.

Amen to that. It's perfect.

Just wish they served dark meat.

Mary Ruth’s in Georgiana, Al has legit fried chicken. It’s a stop light town on the way to the beach for most traveling down south I-65, getting off that exit to go to the Panhandle beaches.
Just a hole in the wall kinda place.

If you like spicy fried chicken, head over to a gas station with Creole Fried Chicken. It's spicier and crunchier than Popeyes spicy.

Chicken Shack.

I prefer a "wet" batter and while not as good as Gus's, theirs is very good. My favorite in BR.

I see several chicken joints mentioned but I took the title to mean a restaurant that is not fried chicken specific. One that has several other menu options.

If that's the case, Copelands has killer fried chicken. Not hard to figure out why. I recently had Highway Fried Chicken in Harahan and it was really good. Just south of the Huey on Jefferson Hwy. Vietnamese owned.

If you can find a convenient store that has a well run Krispy Krunchy Chicken its actually quite good. It may be my favorite overall.
