Other than 2 types of bao and one type of wings, what other street foods do they offer? They no longer serve the dumplings because they couldn’t keep up with demand. Therefore the ramen is their main offering. The other day when I went, they had taken the dumplings off the menu and added 2 more types of ramen, bringing the total to 4.

So we checked it out the other night and idk. I know the concept is successful but it's not my cup of tea. First we stood in a line for tacos, then in a line to get ramen, then in a line to get a drink. Then our names were shouted out and we had to get back up to get our food. Halfway through my ramen, I had to get back up and stand in line to get another drink....while my food was getting cold. If the food were special, that would be one thing, but you give up a lot comforts in this type of dining environment. It's not the relaxing experience that I look for when dining out.

I have yet to go to White Star but I did go to a place that sounds similar to this in Dallas. Essentially a bunch of small pop-up type restaurants, ice cream places, breakfast places, and a bar all under one roof. This location had some table but was mostly picnic tables.
My issue was it was fricking busy, I went to a taco place that was supposed to be really good, after 15 minutes of standing in line (line of 5 when I got in line) and only two people had ordered, I went to the burger place.
I was the only one in line but it took what felt like forever, but was really only like 2 minutes, for someone to help me. I ordered a burger (7.99) and fries (2.99) which is about what I would pay out here. I will say both were smaller than I anticipated for the price, the actual meat patty looked like the size of a burger king patty and the fries came in a small cup and covered in salt, like too much salt for me.
Outside of that small issue, the only other issue was finding a seat as they were packed. So my friend and I ended up sitting at the bar to eat and having to order drinks since you couldn't eat there without ordering. The other issue I had was the hamburger people apparently swiped my card 3 times for the fries so I had multiple 2.99 charges pop up. When I called about it I was essentially told they couldn't do anything, so I let me credit card company know and they removed the charges.

Nah, I completely get it. Every time I’ve been, I’ve been for lunch. It’s not a place I’m going for an intimate dining experience.

That’s kind of a large portion of the market for just a bakery imho.
Looks like MJ’s Cafe going in next to the sweets bakery. The one on Jefferson by Reginelli’s is closing or already closed.

WSM is a great addition for BR, but the reasons he gave above are why it probably won't be in my regular rotation. I don't get lunch out on weekdays, and I really only see that setup as a weekday lunch type of place.

Well scratch everything I just said. I've been waiting to hear where they were going to move.

I wouldn't go to a place like that for a relaxing meal. It's a good place for a group to go to lunch or a casual group dinner, because everyone can get what whatever type of food they want. That type of place also makes for a great late night, after the bars close munchie spot. Those types of places are not for every occasion.

Is this confirmed?? I heard they were moving elsewhere but that was a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I heard they were going to Pink Elephant but was hoping they'd be at White Star.

I live down the street and have tried all of the restaurants multiple times.
The best restaurant is the pizza place. It might be my new favorite in Baton Rouge. I would stick to the traditional pizza's, they have a great sauce and crust. it is a 2 minute cook once in the oven and it comes out perfect.
I love the tacos and Chow Yum Phat is struggling. The dumplings were the best thing on the menu in my mind and they took them off the menu last I was in there. Not sure but I think they had storage issues with them.
I am not a big Jolie Pearl guy but some swear by it.
The bar is coming around, the first time I went I had a shaken Old Fashion, first time for everything but they have come around on cocktails and have a fair beer menu. Excited about the bakery coming...

Finally found a parking spot and went for lunch yesterday. Got the taco's from Gov't taco. They were good. Nothing mind blowing, but they were tasty. Liked the chicken one the best.

The only people who don't agree with this statement are the people who have never been there. I had friends who used to swear by La Tienda on Siegen, and I kept telling them Morenita was better. Finally they went and now they won't go anywhere else for tacos.

I mostly agree with your sentiments. Chow Yum Phat needs to step it up - good concept, not great execution. This was the place I was most excited about, and it has not been great.
Fete au Fete is pretty solid.

The bar now has Ghost on tap. That certainly doesn't suck.
