My barb is up to 38 right now. Been leveling with a ww build, thinking about switching to a rend build for more single target damage. Don't have issues until I get a boss fight that doesn't have many adds. Fury generation is tough on single target.

lv 51 and still on act 3. I probably need to stop and just finish the story.

i run a thorn/bleed build and that has done me well for mob clearing and i use lung with the blood modifier with a focus on crit and attack speed gear for single mob chop down. at tier 3 i burn down most bosses in less than a minute. the lunge strike is crucial. i ran it with flay for a long time and the singe point damage is too slow.

Running frost sorc for now. Running WT2, finished the prologue, some world events, a dungeon, and hit 13.

in the early game do f around and change up skills points periodically. you may find some combos more fun/survivable than others. especially if you find a really good aspect on gear that strongly buffs a given build.
i cant think of any donts other than upgrading the hell out of gear in early levels. gear comes fast enough

Don't worry too much about min maxing in your initial play through. (1-50) Just enjoy and find your playstyle.
Don't be afraid to refund all points and try new builds. It's cheap until you reach higher levels. Experiment while it's cheap.
Don't feel obligated to play world tier 2 right away. If it takes twice as long to kill mobs, a 20% experience increase isn't worth it. It's better to work through the campaign and unlock WT 3 faster than slog through the campaign on WT2.
Do try to match your build (skills) to any good legendary you find. Legendaries as you level (1-50) will kinda determine your build until you start getting more options to synergize with each other. I got pulverize legendary early and used that until I found a few tornado legendaries that worked together and swapped my build. Now, I'm collecting aspects for end game build. I'm level 59 for reference.
Your first 50 levels are basically for you to mess around with stuff and find your playstyle.
