I've gone this whole time without losing over 1k runes, happened twice last night, once with 7k and once with 15k. I was raging so hard lmao. I opened that stonesword gate in the first dungeon, went down and killed the boss, kept exploring. got to the bridge with the 2 grafted scions, killed one and got knocked off by the second one. Ran back, tried to rush for my souls, and the impact from the first scion's roof drop knocked me off the ledge again. Could've smashed my controller

I found a good spot to farm souls early on after taking a portal over to the Dragonbarrow/Caelid area. 1k souls per enemy. I only use it if I had a frickup where I lost a ton of souls....unfortunately it has happened a number of times. Ironically enough, it has even happened during my farming runs lol. One time I accumulated 20k or so after losing 25k earlier in that session, and I did something stupid and died twice, losing the farmed souls.

Im only like 2 hours in, Trying to figure out PC controls is frustrating. I cant seem to get the flow. I dont know how to change spells, Im a astrologer mage but using a sword lol. I may use my Ps5 controller on my pc just for ease since Ive never used the wasd much nor know much of anything about the game. I keep having to pause. look at controller controls then correlate to the keyboard mouse controls to figure out how to do anything.

I finished the game just fine using a keyboard and mouse. Just like I finished the other DS games using them.

thank god I'm not the only one. So far this has been the hardest part. It's got me thinking I'm stupid. I am stupid, but I'm not that stupider. I would switch to controller but i smashed them all getting mad at Rocket League

Nioh series is a good reference point.

I wish From would implement the Nioh quick menu system. Team Ninja's system is leaps and bounds ahead of From's when it comes to managing items/spells/etc. while in combat.

I agree, but at least they don't have Team Ninja's loot system

Im on PS4 so have a controller but i had to swap my light and heavy attacks from R1/R2 to Square and Triangle.

I spent my first play session (a few hours) diving into a battle pushing the wrong button to attack.

That Nioh loot system is a real problem for people who need to pick up EVERY piece of loot (even the white weapons), of which I'm 100% guilty.

Same here. I never miss loot, which is why I take my time with games like Elden Ring and Nioh (before I quit it). Nioh gave me so much anxiety with all the different minor stat buffs that are horribly explained for 20 of the same weapon on one mission. I don't know how they made a loot system so convoluted, but it's honestly pretty impressive.

Been playing for a week and finally figured out how to have fun. I was starting to wonder if I actually liked the game when I was fighting Godrick but figured out the best companion/spirit combo and things started to click more. I was having more frustration than fun but now I’m addicted.

The loot system can be messy for sure Mainly have to form new habits and treat the loot system differently. I've heard it compared more to Diablo, so you're gonna wind up leaving shite behind.
Thankfully they implemented a bunch of filter type stuff so you don't have to deal with a lot of it at all, but you do have to configure that.

everytime i think im going to finish the game i wander into some new cave and end up 3 hours deep into a dungeon.

Just finished Ranni’s quest. Might be the best quest in the series

Yeah, that's fair. I mainly dropped the game because I didn't really like the gameplay much. Felt like they were trying to do too much at once. And the enemies are cheaply difficult. Everything one shots you, whereas you have to hit enemies like 6-7 times to kill them. And the bosses... They track your every movement, and since stamina drains so quickly, you can't string together any combos on them like you can with DS bosses. I'm not sure how Nioh 2 is, but after playing Nioh 1 I am very hesitant on playing Final Fantasy Origins: Stranger of Paradise. Hopefully Team Ninja fixes some of the combat issues with that game.

As for ER, I finished Caelid, Volcano Manor, and have just gotten all of the Imbued Keys, so I am exploring those areas. Guessing I am around 70 hours into the game so not sure how much further I have, but seems like the rest of the map I have yet to explore is to the northeast.

There's a lot going on with the gameplay because you have a lengthy list of tools at your disposal that you're intended to continually use. I don't recall having much of an issue with getting 1-shot tbh although bosses can frick you up.

The player's damage output is heavily dependent on learning the ins and outs of the combat system. If you don't do that, then the output will definitely be low. On the other hand, when you get comfortable with it, you start vaporizing everything
As for stamina/ki, you're meant to manage that actively with ki pulsing. The old rule with Nioh is basically: If you're running out of ki, it's usually your own fault. That's just due to how many mechanics you're given to get it back quickly and maintain a high level.

I did hear about Stranger of Paradise last night, so it's on my radar now. I haven't seen much gameplay yet.

Depends on if you've done the capital yet. After the capital, lot more shite to do, including a rather well hidden region.

I finally beat him last night, used the cheese scarlet rot method because he seemed almost impossible with my melee build.

His armor is awesome though, really enjoying how it looks compared to what I had previously.

I was so mad that I couldn't make an endgame "throwing" build in Nioh 2. In Nioh 1, I had a kunai/shuriken build that took me through (most of) the Abyss. In Nioh 2, Ninjutsu users have to switch to a feather/element build around Dream of the Wise.

Also, farming for perfect graces to min/max in Nioh 2 was friggin' AWFUL.

But regardless, those games are brilliant. I don't like comparing them to Soulsborne games because they're really different, but the Nioh and Soulsborne franchises are all amazing in their own right.
