I’ve never been a fan of the ps controller or any of their exclusive games. I’ve always been a fan of the Xbox layout but man they’re not putting out enough games to justify four figures just to get in

That’s why the PC games aspect of this is so big. You now have access to the largest library of games out of any system by virtue of it being able to play PC titles. Not to mention the possibility of also being able to emulate previous gen games at high FPS/resolution (all for free).

I can’t imagine most people like me care about this at all. I don’t think I’ve played a PC game since the old commandos series or baldurs gate 1 25 years ago

I’d bet a lot that not a single person/family I know is buying their kids a gaming PC/ or a console equivalent and I’m in a fairly affluent area of South Florida. A switch or PlayStation sure but even last year a few parents at soccer were bitching about the kids wanting a NEW switch when they had one that works. For most parents 500 bucks is already bordering on ridiculous for video games.

Hell my kids are pretty savvy about what would even be worth asking for. If they saw something over a thousand bucks they’d be like well that ain’t happening for a video game.

You don't have kids riding electric dirt bikes in your area? Those start out around $1200.

Picked a random electric dirt bike on Amazon

Personally I bought my son a gaming PC this past Xmas, granted I had the grandparents chipping in on it but the justification was that it could also be used for homework.

There are kids on e bikes. It’s not the money just more the view on video games I think most people have. By most parents I know they’re seen as a distraction/hinderance to their kids actual activities.

So sure maybe you guys get a switch to mess around with but I’m definitely not spending 3x that kinda mindset.

Is it really that ridiculous when the purchase is supposed to last 7-8 years?

But also another consideration that people overlook about the new Xbox, is that it will also be the end for a monthly subscription needed to simply play online.

PlayStation and Xbox both currently charge $10 a month for basic online play capabilities, and it wouldn’t be shocking if they increased that price… this isn’t a thing on PC. So depending on how long you kept the new console, you could actually end up saving money over the new PlayStation in the long term.

The price point is going to be a sticker shock. They're definitely going to have to sell it.

I imagine they'll expand the Game Pass on PC offerings. That's a whole new library of games they can add to the service. I bet they come up with some sort of partnership with steam.

One thing they did by just announcing this is remove all previous PlayStation "console exclusives" that had a release on PC from the playing field. Anything Sony previously released on PC is now an XBox game. This is why Sony panic-announced they'll no longer be releasing "exclusives" on PC. Clearly, XBox's only competition recognizes this is a game changer. This will also severely limit Sony's ability to attract third party "console exclusives," as many of these won't release without a PC release. I see this as another step down the road of solving the console exclusivity "problem" that Microsoft said was one of the primary drivers behind the ABK purchase. This is a move that casts the "everything is an XBox" push in a totally different light. The end goal was to push Playstation into an isolated corner and make XBox a console/PC hybrid that plays everything except the increasingly small library of Sony-produced exclusives.

If they can figure out a way to get this system to run older games they couldn't include in the backwards compatible push (looking at my copy of THE SABATEUR over here), I'll be happy.

But I already have a PC that can play Xbox games

Not College Football 25.
Why it wasn't released on PC, like nearly everything else, is a mystery.

The XBox has made itself irrelevant to me. I don't even need it as a BluRay player anymore, since I just rip them on my desktop and play them through Plex. My PC (GPU-$300 6070XT) will be able to play everything I want for the next seven years until I upgrade again.

What a strange response. That's clearly the play here. Sony clearly doesn't think it's a laughing matter.

Nah, what's strange is you trying to paint this as some master plan by MS Ah yes, it was all in their master plan to spend $70B on ABK, continue to get bodied by Nintendo/Sony, abandon exclusives altogether, run off their senior leadership, and abandon the traditional console market altogether to target a new niche. They're playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers

Not everyone, Nintendo isn't shocked by this news and has changed nothing for this news. It's true that they outplayed Sony here, as is clear by the way Sony panicked and changed course immediately before this news went public.

But hey, just ignore the obvious evidence in front of your face. You definitely know better than Sony.

What do you suppose they would've changed? Go from not releasing their games on PC to....not releasing games on PC?

There's no outplaying even being attempted. MS isn't trying to compete anymore bro, they've thrown in the towel. They're making this move from a position of necessity. They've accepted that they can't compete in the standard console landscape and are pivoting to something else.

“Nah bruh, sales figures don’t mean anything. Microsoft is setting up for the kill shot!” - just a MS shill, probably.

As was released during the ABK merger trial, XBox is more profitable for Microsoft than PlayStation is for Sony. That's what actually matters.

Xbox is aiming for a higher profit margin, that isnt the same as more profit. They are aiming for 30% margin.

A 30% margin on 30% of the market is still less profit than a smaller margin on 70% of the market. They still haven't hit that 30% mark either.
