I wonder if capitalizing the first letter in the name is your problem. Ive done the name trick 4 times now without issue, once this week.
yeah, a lot of people aren't capitalizing the first letter in the name - it's a name, of a trainer, from a game, you HAVE to capitalize the first letter

Looks like none of the trackers are working right now because pokemon trainer club is down. Also, the creator of smart poke 2 just posted on reddit a couple hours ago that his google play account has been deleted and he lost everything he's made over the past few years. Not sure if niantic is working on a way to completely shut them all down but if they do I'm done with the game. The nearby pokemon list isn't even accurate 90% of the time so without a tracker you're just blindly walking around hoping to come across something good. Couple that with the new decreased catch rate and I no longer have any desire to play this game. Nice job Niantic

I've noticed how off the tracker is. I could learn to deal with the footsteps not being there (they only worked for like the first few days that I played it anyway) but now it is showing me things that simply are not nearby. I am not about to go hunting down a Pikachu that is most likely not there. The other day it told me that a fully evolved Bulbasaur was nearby and then a bunch of stuff I already had such as Pidgeys, Rattatas, etc. Something pops up and it is a Koffing. That was new to me but it was not even showing on my nearby list and I had not even move 10 ft when he popped up. I seriously doubt he just spawned at that moment. I see this happen quite often, things pop up that are not on the tracker. It is completely useless right now so I just keep the app running and if something pops up then great but it is going to take 100% pure luck and I prefer games with a bit of strategy and skill involved.

Caught an 872 Venusaur on Johnston St today

I didn't know they changed the scan rate from 5 to 10 seconds either. That is why driving down the road I don't see a third of spawns that I used to see.

Yep, that'll be it for me too. I imagine Niantic will successfully cut off all third-party tracking. After all, they are trying to sell it to us next month in the form of hardware. That's the sole reason they are aggressively fighting it.

They changed the refresh rate to once every 10 seconds (was once every 1 second at first) if going over 12.5 mph to help curb people playing while driving or biking meaning by the time a Pokemon pops up on the screen you will be 70 meters past it without time to try to catch.
This caused all the trackers that people previously used to become ineffective and now they are shut down.

I've never seen a publisher make a game worse like this

They took potentially one of the greatest apps of all time and corrupted the shite out of it into a boring POS.
frick Niantic.

Any of y'all find it weird that my 97 CP Tangela has a solar beam special attack of 120? Seems ridiculously high?

I'm salty as hell that I am almost level 21, work next to a poke stop, and still have not received a 10k egg

This is the biggest bunch of bullshite ever. I had noticed that whenever I'm driving/riding and biking I'm not getting any spawns and this explains it.
Biking also no longer works on eggs. They must've cut the speed down again.
I don't have the time to walk all over the gd place hunting for pidgey and rattata's. A run in the morning and leisurely bike after work was my main hunting time. Now I get no spawns because apparently moving above a walk won't spawn anything.

What boggles my mind is how Niantic has handled this game so badly when they did such a great job with Ingress. They actually listened to the players and implemented things they wanted.

quote:"Potentially" is key, but even before the game became unplayable it was pretty bare bones anyway. The rush of nostalgia wasn't going to last months in the absence of more meaningful progression. They can't even get the game back to it's Day 1 form, I highly doubt expanded gameplay is/was around the corner.

The fact that Niantic now gets to be a case study aside, Nintendo/Pokemon Co/Game Freak got exposed in this hard too (developer selection excluded). I mean it's pretty clear Niantic is currently most incentivized at hitting revenue/payment milestones (e.g. releasing in as many regions as possible) vs. rectifying the core game at the pleas of its player base or protecting the integrity of the franchise. I think they also recognize that this was always going to be a short-term money grab or they'd do more to appease/retain the player base - examples, refusal to issue item refunds when fricked by bugs, absurdly dinging the catch rates on low-level trash. I don't get the feeling anyone has control over Niantic at this point, beyond the original licensing agreement that, knowing the JP parties, probably says something as elementary as "have the game out on iOS/Android and x subscribers by y date and you get $z." It's 2016 and still damn near everything Nintendo properties do related to online play is amateur.
I don't think there will be much of a player base beyond the really hardcore in a few months - which Niantic frickups aside was probably destined anyway - and that is going to get shredded further when Sun/Moon (like, actual Pokemon) comes out in November. If you're a casual you have very little incentive to play much anymore - gyms are totally inaccessible and hunting went from being enjoyable to a joke. You absolutely have no incentive to pay for anything.

I'll still slow play it like I have been doing. I haven't spent a dime and I'm not going to.
I'll keep playing when all my friends stop that way I can at least be level higher than them eventually.
while they are buying incubators, incense, ect....... I'm still just going along by catching everything that pops up.
Level 15 1/2. Ive hatched 3 10k eggs and have 2 more in my inventory.
I also have 200 poke balls and 100 great balls. I hit every poke stop everyday heading to work. I try not to get below 200 total balls.

Since the game is shite I installed a GBA emulator and am playing Pokemon Fire Red.

The thing that sucks the most is knowing the potential pokemon go had. I hope niantic get what's coming to them and people stop playing and it fades into obscurity. Maybe then Nintendo could cut ties with niantic and reboot the game with a developer that actually gives a shite about making a quality game.
They could target the more hardcore pokemon fans by implementing more elements from the main series like turn based battling, training, geographically specific pokemon, etc. I bet they could find a huge amount of people who would be willing to just pay for the game upfront and remove micro transactions. I think even $20 would be reasonable. In a way you can't blame niantic for their decisions because it's just a part of the nature of free to play games. Obviously they want money for their work, and since the game is free and nobody wants to spend money if they don't have to, they have to create an incentive for people to purchase their items. It would kind of suck to develop a game that millions of people are playing and only a tiny percentage of them ever pay you shite for it. I say just make the best game you possibly can and the people will see how good it is and want to pay to play it (or not). That system is tried and tested in the video game industry and it ends up with everyone winning

Pokemon GO is such a terrible fricking game that it gave me the itch to play actual pokemon, and I did the exact same thing.
